Engine to intake studs- removal.
« on: October 09, 2015 - 08:05:16 PM »
Hi guys,

It's the long weekend here in Canada so I have some time to wrench on the 360 im dropping in the challenger.

It's a 1972 dated 360 and has these little studs that protrude from the engine block where the intake would mate to it. Is there some magic way to remove these? They interfere with my edelbrock intake and don't allow it to sit flat.

I tried pulling on them but those suckers are in there good.

Worst case scenario Can I grind them off? Why are they even there?

I'll guess alignment, but don't really know

The dowels where to prevent the ends seals from slipping in or out.. Most were spring steel roll pins... A few are solid steel..  If yours are solid your best option might be to drill the bottom rail of your intake...  A little dab of Prussian Blue or even paint to transfer the pin locations, two minutes with a drill & your good to go....

They are roll pins.....most people just pull them out.
I pulled mine out with a pair of vise grips.   Slow twist and pull - they come right out. Might apply a little heat if they're being stubborn.   Not needed.

Thanks guys I didn't think they were needed and my 318 did not have them.

I will try the vice grips again but I'm fairly positive I will have to grind them off.

Yup...if they won't pull out,  just grind them flush.
