Alternator not charging ? and dash light control question
« on: October 11, 2015 - 10:56:22 AM »
Drove the car for the first time in a very long time when lights were needed. Noticed the gauges were not bright enough to be able to read. Something else I noticed ........isn't the dash lights suppose to be at their brightest with control knob all the way to the left before a click to turn on the dome light ? The dome light does not come on with the control. If all the way to the left is 12 oclock, then the dash lights do not come on until 3oclock and are completely dark by 4 oclock with knob able to still turn until 8oclock. Is the dash control knob faulty ?

Also.....
Stock alternator but have headlight relays..... with car running at idle (800-900rpm), volt/ohm meter shows 12.08volt at battery with no lights, lights on, lights on bright. Shouldn't it be at least 13volt ?

I love working with nuts and bolts, but electrical crap pissed me off !

With your switch , sounds like you might be in need of member Slotts services.
With the alternator ..... does  the voltage rise with more RPM,s?

Voltage Regulator was bad.  A friend locally has an extra dash light control knob so all is good now. :D
