70 Challenger with amber turn signals in the rear?
« on: October 14, 2015 - 03:59:18 AM »
Hey guys,

found this picture on Hemmings, the second one when you scroll down:
http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2014/08/29/how-does-the-1970-dodge-hemi-challenger-stack-up-against-its-modern-equivalents/comment-page-1/

Does it have some kind of amber turn signals in the back instead of the cat eyes or is it just an optical illusion through the camera?
I'm afraid the latter, but being curious...

Gotta be an illusion, since the car looks stock all over otherwise.

I don't see anything weird also. But I am curious though, on how the European exports were with amber turn lights...

No amber on Swedish imports though, the rules about that excluded the older cars.

So it is safe for one to turn his red signals and hazard lights to a country that has only amber? Just asking a question I had in mind, because in my country US cars are not required to be adjusted too for older cars...

Here in Austria you HAVE TO have amber turn signals, without exception.  :banghead: It's so easy in other countries here in Europe, in Germany where I have the car from red turn signals were possible up to 1970 or so..
We are the idiots in bureaucracy once again, still remaining relics from the monarchy I guess

So I had to put on external indicators, which just look.... awful on an E-Body. :puke:  I put in yellow/white switchback LEDS to get amber through the glass - works perfectly - but now the brake lights remain in the inner two Chambers - again bureaucracy: they are now more than 40 cm from the side edge away and that means:  :dupe: no way!

We have an issue with the parking lights on a 70 model though, have to be white, can not be amber. So solution is a small clear bulb for parking light drilled in to the headlights, or change the amber lenses in the front to white, because white turn signals are allowed. My solution is to remove the amber lenses when I register the car (we have to go for an inspection), and then put them back and be an outlaw. Cops don't reallly care about that, since its just stupid bureaucracy.

Same issue here, but not really a problem as the headlights have to be converted to H4 lamps anyway (again... bureaucracy). They have an integrated bulb for parking lights.

White turn signals allowed? Wow! :o

I'm still not very sure about how cops handle old cars here, I guess it depends on who you meet. Some say they don't care though, for example about the red side markers which I had to tape over because neither red lights nor red reflections are allowed on the side. Time to move to another country I guess :)

Yeah, same here with red sidemarkers, red reflections allowed though, so I just pop the bulbs out on inspection.

In my country, no need to change anything whatsoever. The car passed inspection and was issued the historic plates without making any modification... Guess we are lucky  :)

Thank you soundcontrol !   :) Mopars are extra rare. There are U.S. cars in Greece but not too many. The first U.S. car (classic) I saw was a 1964 1/2 Mustang when I was about 11  years old and I was speechless. Anyway most classic cars are Mustangs and second generation Camaros. To understand how rare a Mopar is here, I was searching for an E-Body Mopar since 2008, an add was posted about two years ago (2013) and I immediately bought it. I have seen in youtube (Greek owners) one Challenger convertible and a 73 'cuda, also a 1958 Plymouth Fury (Christine  :scared:). Nothing else until one week ago when I lost the best deal I have ever seen:

http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=108816.0

And yesterday I saw again in an add, a 71 slant six Challenger... Suddenly Mopars are out of nowhere!! The guy that has the '71, told me that he also has a 70 Dart and a 69 Satellite two door. So there are some Mopars here after, all but people are not too eager to sell or fixing and drive them...

Wow, a slant six with R/T options, if its an original car that must be a rare combination. No, I did not suspect Greece would have a big muscle car culture. In Sweden we do, because we always been looking at American culture and copying it, ever sine half of Sweden emigrated to Minnesota in the late 1800's and early 1900's.  (Exaggerated a bit there, it was 1,5 million Swedes though). So we have probaby ten of thousands of vintage US cars here, about 900 e-bodys. Well, maybe you'll get that -71 now... :grinno:

...I had to Google that, we have about 300 000 US cars here, damn!

Wow!!! 300,000 cars are too many, I like that there is a huge follow up with US cars, maybe someone will sell me a Plymouth E-body  :grinno: from all the 900 of them... American culture to tell the truth is being copied by most of Europe, but US cars are one the best things to like. If you ever come to Greece please tell, to meet and talk Mopar! :2thumbs:

I will go to Greece again, some day! Buy this Cuda, not a bad price even for Sweden, about 31 000 USD.

Or this Challenger for about 23 000 USD

There's always some e-bodys for sale here.
