Here's an update on the Challengers engine bay. Pulled the motor , cleaned , replaced all gaskets , painted , added electronic ignition , replaced the wiper motor , all belts and hoses. Tried not to go overboard "restoring" the rest of the originality under the hood. What do you think??? Check out the before and after pic's

In 1970 should the air cleaner be black wrinkle finish ?

I love black wrinkle finish, contrasts nicely with the pie pan.

Engine bay looks great.

Maybe get a fat side stripe made to match the color of the bumble bee stripe. And cover up the butterflies and dodge logo.   You could probably get someone to photoshop a pic just to see what it would look like,  Unless you think the graphics would show through the vinyl.     That way you get to make it a little more "yours" without permanently changing it.    :2cents:   Engine bay looks tight. Much better.      R/T

Looks great! A black aircleaner would take it up another notch.

Is orange correct or black in 1970 ?

My car is a 9-69 build date. As far as I know the air cleaner is original to the car.

It actually looks like a 1971 Air Cleaner with the breather hose running all the way to the driver's side. :dunno:

I cleaned and sanded them then applied POR-15 Hi-temp manifold gray on them. They were 3 different colors before and were a real mess.

Engine bay looks much better! I just got to looking at this thread and have to agree I would lose those butterflies in a second. I know back in the day with oil based pinstriping you could take it off with Easy Off oven cleaner (believe it or not) without hurting the paint. Not sure what they used but it may just be oil based paint. If the car was inside most of it life there may not be any ghosting afterwards. You could match the paint if it came to painting the quarters if the painter is any good. Like was said it's your car so do what you want.  :2thumbs:
