1970 Dodge Challenger RT 440 4-Speed
« on: October 21, 2015 - 06:19:58 PM »
1970 Dodge Challenger real R/T With JS Vin. Was originally a 383 auto car, now has 440 w/ pistol grip 4-speed. Front power disc brakes. Good 10-15 foot car, still needs a few things here and there. Previous owner started adding new aftermarket gauges to replace originals that didn't work. Paint and body aren't perfect. New Holley 750 double pumper. Good tires. Older amateur restoration.
My wife mentioned she wants a 70 purple challenger, I would prefer an auto trans for her.
Just wondering what you think this is worth?
Thanks Jim

without a picture of the car and interior, I can safely offer $3,000. That is if it is drivable. :useless:

Biggest question  RUST  :dunno: :clueless:                 Many people buy these cars not knowing what lurks under the paint, under the undercoat, inside the frame rails.  Just sayin.   :2cents:     :rebel:

Is it true California car? Is the body a true Califonian with little to no rust in the past?
If so anything under $25K would be a bargain.

Some may ask 'where the hell is he coming from'.  I am coming from the rust belt where great E-body bodies sell for $10,000 and up. The parts and labour saved to buy a good body just escapes some people that have not had to deal with it.

:iagree:   The rust issue is the time and money pit. IMHO a truly rust free car is worth many thousands more. Consider the RT/SE builder I have for sale. I really don't want to sell it, so I priced it high. The thing about this car is it doesn't have a drop of rust, anywhere. I've had 2 paint and body men examine it front to back, top to bottom. Very little prep needed to paint. I've had 4 E body owners look at it, and I told them I'm asking way to much money. They all said, well consider the price of a Dynacorn body. And my car comes with tons of parts. So if I sell it I will hate it. Yea the money is nice, but will I ever find another original body like this.  :dunno:  Probably not.   :walkaway:    :rebel:

Alan

You recently stated that a rust bucket car is worth the 10k that the market is willing to bare after being sold for $6800 prior.

How can you say this car is only worth 12-15k?  :clueless:

Even with the amount of rust?

If that's the case, I'm pretty shocked.

years/model/drivetrain completely different. 70' Chally R/T with a 383 is pretty common, minor options, easy to find. '71 Cuda with a 340 and a Shaker, is a rare combo, hard to find and much more sought after.

I don't care if you find the rarest Hemi Coronet with a gowing attached.

If it's all head together by a shoestring of metal then wow a fool and his $$$ are soon parted.
