Mancini Racing Distributor

Vacuum advance distributor (440) by Mancini at $139.00

 I checked Roseville, and an equivalent type is about $50 more

Is the Mancini worth it?

You want a dist with adjustable mechanical advance , I am not sue the Mancini one has that feature so ask about it before purchasing it  , Mancini used to list the one that is adjustable but I do not see it listed now . so maybe the Roseville one or the Firecore are better value for the extra $$

Firecore has the adjustable mech advanced.  Mancini sells them, and the RTR version.  You can also order from Ron Wilson (Firecore Distributor) ron.wilson1@live.ca

I just dropped the RTR in my 440 '68 Charger and it makes a big difference!

What differences from stock did you notice? Were you changing from a single/dual point to electronic?

What differences from stock did you notice? Were you changing from a single/dual point to electronic?

I already had electronic.  But the entire performance of the 440 has improved in responsiveness, quicker start-up, idle is smooth, cruising, full throttle, and definitely stronger.

Do you figure the stock unit was 'pretty used up'? Or in your opinion the build quality of the Firecore that much better.
I was contemplating the same replacement dist, but was trying to decide if it was an upgrade or not.

I think it is a combination of both.  The contacts and rotor still looked good on my old distributor, but the coil looked pretty old, so I think it was working o.k. but not as good as it could have been.  The Firecore is more advanced because it is newly developed.  I do think you will feel the difference, it won't be revolutionary but it will still be a noticeable improvement.  Also, the Firecore does have the brownish cap if you want to keep the stock look.

how is the mechanical advance adjusted on the firecore?  I have a MSD that I run that uses easy peasy stop bushings.

Colored coded springs for stiffness that are included.  I got:

Billet RTR distributor $250
Firecore ignition wire set $115
Coil $45

Basically you get the whole system for what MSD wants for just the distributor....the MSD RTR is close to $400 and you still have to purchase a coil and wires.

You are able to slide and adjust plates inside the distributor, similar to the MP dist.
