WIW: 70 Challenger R/T U Code
« on: October 22, 2015 - 11:33:24 AM »
Went to look at this car today locally, i'm curious what everyone thinks it's worth. 70 Challenger R/T U code 440-4 brl. 4 speed with console, dana 60, ralley dash, hemi orange with black interior. Pretty awesome combo if you ask me! The car does have the fender tag, although I didn't get to look at it. Original motor and build sheet are gone. The car is on a rotisserie so it's basically completely disassembled. The current owner has already replaced the quarters and trunk floor, there is no other major rust to speak of that I could find. Apparently this was a 100% complete car when the current owner bought it, so all the parts are included. Thoughts on what it's worth right now and what it would be worth with a full resto?

$8k as it sits, after you put another 40-60k into it, it will be worth $50k

Better off buying something done unless you love to work on it.

Guarantee not everything is there.  This is a MAJOR project and you are doing the guy a favor freeing up garage space for him.  I would offer $5k, get a big truck and trailer and take it somewhere to get restored.  I think all said and done you will be in it $80k.

:iagree: Though I wouldn't take it somewhere... But you'll spend allot more than it's worth..... Looking at the photo I see more junk laying around the garage than car parts.... I bet the wife would let you take everything for a grand... So the price is between 5K & 1K......  :2cents:

:iagree:   And that picture is probably after they cleaned up the garage.   :smilielol:  I can imagine the hours of bodywork to get all the dents out of the sheet metal from things being stacked on the car.  If your really serious about it you should schedule a day with the seller, get it outside, inventory the parts, examine every square inch of the body. Only then will you know what your truly getting. One day of helping him could save you thousands down the road.     :2cents:

$1-5k for a 1970 Challenger 440 RT 4 speed in a great color. You guys are all nuts. I think $8-10,000 would be a minimum starting point.

You show me all the parts & I'll raise my estimate... Having done enough cars through the years I'm betting more is missing than the guy has stated..... And trust me, he's over his head & the wife wants it gone.....

The description says it's a 100% complete so that's what I'm basing my estimate on if he comes home with half the stuff then all bets are off.The Dana's worth $2,000 by itself. 4 speed setup $1,000 rotisserie $1,000, a 440 HP engine ......It looks and sounds  like a really good project to me. Just hate to see the guy lose the car by making him a crazy low offer.

I've seen to many ads stating 100% complete when in fact there was plenty missing.... Put knowledgable eyes on the Dana before value cause lots of 8.75 axles have been called Dana & worse yet a an 7.25 has a rear cover so some folks think thats a Dana....

Hemi 4 speed might be $1000, but a 23 spline is $350ish...  Put hands/eyes on the shifter, clutch linkage, bell housing, driveshaft.....

If you want to be upside down jump in, personally I've put enough cars back together & don't need the experience, If you love the combo buy it but know that you'd be money ahead to buy a running driving car....

Or send it to Alan.... He needs more work...

I agree that there's probably some stuff missing but that can be negotiated during a careful inspection. If this car is how it's described it's worth alot more then $5,000. It'd be nice to get it under $5k but I doubt you will unless the owner lives under a rock. A complete 23 spline 4 speed setup is worth at least a $1000. You also have to remember not every car needs  to have $40-60,000 restoration or be a show winner. That car can be back on the road as a presentable driver for a fraction of the cost if you're willing to be patient and get your hands dirty.

I have to agree that the major parts if you went out to buy them would cost more than 5 large. I would say if the undercarriage is in vary good condition then ya 7,500- 10,000.  :2cents:

The ad also says the engine is gone. So what's there? Any engine at all? Doubtful that it's a 440HP. And if the engine is missing I would bet there are other engine components missing. I totally agree...go spend a day with him and inventory parts. Have a good look at that transmission to see if it's an 18 spline or 23 spline. Do some research on Dana rear ends before you go....if it's a Dana it is massive....and valuable. If the parts are all what he claims and the VIN matches the rad support, cowl and trans....I would pay up to 7k. Go down from there if it's missing parts...they are expensive!
