5K I would buy that car forsure!  I haven't seen very many U code challengers let alone cool colour combo.  I've seen a similar car up here in canada listed for over 20...with no motor or anything.  I feel it's worth more than 5

$1-5k for a 1970 Challenger 440 RT 4 speed in a great color. You guys are all nuts. I think $8-10,000 would be a minimum starting point.

I have to agree, I think 8-10 is a fair price. I probably should have been a little more specific in my first post. We have known the current owner for a long time, and he is a good guy. He's not over his head, he just lost his interest in the project. He's restored a few T/A Challengers in the past and did a 70 convertible a few years back and all were very nice cars. Yes, i'm sure some of the parts are missing, but he's basically offering all the Challenger parts that he has collected over the years. The rebuilt 440 that comes with the car is indeed an HP motor and is complete. He also is including a 70 HP bare block. We still haven't decided if we are going to make an offer, but it is a great car even in the condition it is in. A lot of negativity going on here, which is understandable considering how poor the picture is. This car checks nearly all the boxes you would want when looking for your dream Challenger.

And there you have it!  8 large would be A how could you go wrong price. you could part the car out and not loose. don't be  :scared:

In 1999 I paid $4k for an N code Challenger SE that was hanging on a rotisserie. Already stripped completely ,epoxy primered , and the engine and trunk painted FC7. I went through all of the parts he had all over the house and garage. When I was convinced it was all there and usable I bought it.

3 years and $30k later doing all the work myself I had a running, driving car. Maybe my time and money would have been better spent buying a running and driving car BUT I knew exactly what I had. I rebuilt and built every aspect of that car myself. If nothing else I had a sense of pride when someone would comment "Nice car man" ( Damn right it was)

I'd pay what you feel it's worth and don't worry about what someone else thinks. If you're happy THAT'S ALL THAT MATTERS. If you can afford to buy it and also FINISH IT I'd say GO FOR IT!!!

I have a project 70 Challenger R/T that I been think of selling.  I know there are parts missing but I have a lot of documentation from the original owner.  Factory 383/4 speed with A/C, Top Banana Yellow with White Interior.

And what would the asking price be on this project? $3,500? A 383 4 speed car is not even in the same city as a 440 4 speed car. Talk about a hole in the ground. That car would be better off cloned into a hemi car to achieve the highest value.

The 440 4 speed Challenger that this post was started over is easily a $15,000 car. Maybe more .
Not sure where some of these prices are coming from but this is an E-body 4 speed car. Where are the finished 440 speed cars for $50K??????
Rebuilt 440HP,and  Dana is worth over $8,000 alone. Surely the rest of the parts and the body, semi-completed body work are worth another $7,000.
Sure the buyer could be upside down by the time it was finished but it does not have to be an OE restored car. There is a purple one up here in Ontario that is an example of how far NOT to take a 440-4 restoration. However I believe that that car would have sold a long time ago if it was a 4 speed or maybe even if it was converted to a 4 speed.

My advice would be to talk to your friend and get a sense of where he is and try to buy it if you can afford it. You might pay a little more than you hope to but you will have a car that will always be ahead of a 383 or 340 car. You know the seller and you probably have a level of comfort that he is not about to rip you off.

Yes, we ended up purchasing this car for what I believe is a fair price. Along with the car and it's parts came the rest of the owners parts stash that he had collected over the years. No need to make a list of everything that was included, lets just say that the volume of parts is significant which is why buying this car was a no-brainer. Once we get it all back to our shop and assess what we have, we'll make a decision as to what we are going to do with it. We have a 68 charger and a 70 V-code 4 speed dana 60 Cuda in the paint shop right now, and a V code GTX and a 70 Challenger sunroof car waiting in line after those two.
