Auto transmission question

Will a 340 with a manual transmission crank work with an automatic? If so, then how? Just bolt up or do I need any parts to make up the difference?

Should drop right in... Unless it's had a later design pilot bearing installed & if thats the case just remove the bearing & your good...

Awesome! Thanks for the quick response. It shouldn't that I know of (was built to 69 specs apparently) lol this is what I was told.


This is what you get...
Fresh High compression balanced (4 speed steel crank) 340 motor..72 block, 69 pistons, rods crank.
Fresh 202 valve "U" heads
Mopar Purple shaft cam, New True roller dual timing chain, New Mopar Harmonic Balancer
New HV oil pump
4V carberator and aluminum intakes.
Stock steel valve covers.

This engine is internally balanced and is factory finished drilled for 4 speed pilot bearing. Crank and rods and pistons are from a 69 4 speed Barracuda. All internal parts balanced and reconditioned and engine uses stock internals and is standard bore

Be sure to measure where the polite bearing goes. I had a nightmare last year and had to have my crank bored out to work.
Its just a little 340 with a miss

His going with an Auto, The only factory cranks not finish bored for an Auto are pre 66 LA (273)...

I end up having a crank in my first 340 that had that 273 in it. It's a quick check that saves a lot of issues.

One more quick question. Should I be okay with my 904 tranny that was mated to the 318?

Your 904 should be fine..
