May get my first 67 cuda?
« on: October 28, 2015 - 08:17:35 AM »
Hi Guys:

I am new to this group.
I have been collecting Oldsmobile’s for a while (70-72 Cutlass Supreme).
I now have a lead on a good Plymouth Barracuda, 1967 Convertible that looks in good shape.
I know nothing about Barracudas.  I have been looking for a new project convertible and this looks like it may be interesting (for the right price).
What are some of the pitfalls I can expect?  I assume that parts for a 1967 will be much harder and more expensive to acquire than a 70 cutlass.
I am somewhat mechanically inclined and am able to most basic stuff myself.

Cars history:
Limited, it’s been the hands of a family member for 30+ years.
Rumors indicate it’s been well maintained and driven regularly.
I do not have any details of the engine size at this time.

I will try to attach a picture if possible.
Suggestions welcome
Miles

Welcome aboard Miles      The Barracuda looks nice. I'm building a 67 convertible now, some parts are hard to find, but not impossible. If you run across parts needs let me know.

Welcome to the site. I'd buy that and drive the wheels off it.

Welcome: Check closely for rust, especially on a convertible that has been stored outside.

Welcome to the site and congrats on finding a car as apparently nice as that one seems! Get it on a hoist and go over the undercarriage.floor pans and subframe rails with a fine tooth comb. A convert lives and dies by the strength of it's rockers and inner structure. Check how the doors close, do they drop when opened off the latch? Power top function, electrical issues? gauges all work? Compression readings on the engine all within 10% of the highest one? oil pressure and cleanliness? brake functions and hose/line conditions, leaks? That'll keep you out of trouble for a while and if you go through all of it, you'll have a very good read on the car. Good luck

I have a 68 notchback myself. ....

Can't wait to see you build it!

Thank you for all of your helpful suggestions.
I am still in the negotiations stage.
If its out of my price range, and if the owner still want to move it, I will pass on the details.

I have been looking at Hagerty and others for a ball park price.
I have not seen this car in 20+ years.  I can only go by the description and the pictures
that were taken last weekend.
My guess is, that in its current condition,  and assuming the small engine.
Its valued at 9-15k.  I am working to get many more details as soon as possible.
The car is located 1200+ miles from my house.

Regards, Miles71

Miles, perhaps someone here would be willing to go look at it for you. It wouldn't be the first time.
