Last 6 in VIN and late production?
« on: October 29, 2015 - 10:52:20 AM »
Hi, I was talking with my friend about the last six in VIN number lets say 123456 (for JS23U0B123456). It has C12 (productionday 12th december 1969). Correct?

But the other car we look at has JS23V0B441122, production day says (on fendertag) 919 and that would be 19th september 1969.

Can this be correct?

I thought
HIGHER last VIN = late build
LOWER last 6 VIN = early build

Please explain so we dont kill each other within the end of week ;)

js29U0B440289  has a SPD of 723   so JS23V0B441122 having a SPD of 919 is a problem....   Production ended late in July so it couldn't be a sept of 70 SPD, they were building 71's by then....   A Challenger R/T Hardtop with a 440 Sixpack built in Sept 69 (919 SPD) should have a VIN sequence starting JS23V0B1XXXXX....

True , mine is 112xxx & was built in aug 69
441122 would be near the end of production so june / July
so if it has a sept build date & 441122 it has to be a reproduced fender tag
the only variation to this is any E body built in the E / LA plant , very few were built there so it could have a very low sequence number say 108000 & be built as late as june / july

Yep, something is not quite right with that tag. Scott.

Yes, LA sequence numbers are much lower than Hamtramck ones for the same SPD. However, they stopped E-Body production in May at the LA plant.
