Hi. I was wondering if anyone has seen bumpers like these on a Challenger. I was told that they were a special order and might be Barracuda bumpers? It's a '71 Challenger R/T with 340. Is this good or bad. LOL!

Those are the "Elastomeric Bumper" option available on both the Cuda and Challenger in 70-71 Kinda rare option, very cool

Thank you anlauto for such a quick reply.  We are looking to sell it (cause my husband is gonna kill himself in it  ) and I was wondering if anyone can give us a ballpark figure. What other information would you need for that? Pretty much restored, missing latch for glove box, new rear quarter panels and trunk pan. Motor # doesn't match. Motor been gone thru and its balanced but not blue printed.  Has a 650 Demon carb and 273 gears... my husband told me what to say.  We have gotten so many different prices.

Does it have a fender tag? If so, can you post the codes. That would help a lot in determining value. Also quality of paint and location?

I think I found it. This was the number stamped into passengers side. WSR35 1 Its located in northern Minnesota. It was repainted about 3 years ago and have only put on about 300 miles since then. No dings or scratches. Looks brand new. Or did you mean what kind of paint?

The way the car looks it's probably easily a $20K-$25K car.
The only way you're going to get that number up would depend on options, originality, numbers matching, documentation etc....
For instance:

4spd vs Auto makes a big difference

Original fender tag and or broadcast sheet makes a difference

Whether or not the bumper option is original to that car, or whatever cool options it might have ?

Is it all steel or all full of bondo ? Has it been restored? What was changed ?

Do the numbers on the engine/trans/body match ?

All these factors play into the value.

If it was a fully restored #1 car it could be worth up to $50K

Have the build sheet. 4 speed pistol grip. No bondo. Restored rear quarter panels and trunk pan. trans and body #'s match. Bumper is original. It has the larger back window. Don't know if that matters. Blue is the original color. My Uncle was only the second guy to own it. The bored out 30, 340 motor that we put in it has us stumped. Something different about the oil pan seals. Both are large or something like that.

"71's are my favorite year.  The first step is the VIN.  Don't post the whole VIN number (for security reasons for you), but can you tell us just the first 7 digits?  It should be something like JH23H1Exxxxx, or JS23H1Exxxxx.  The VIN tag on the dash and should be the same number on the buildsheet.

23 - 2 door hardtop
H - 340 engine (but I think you said the engine is not original, right?)
1 - 1971
B - Made in the Hamtramck, MI plant

You can post a pic of the build sheet and/or fender tag if you would like, with the last part of the VIN covered.  This will show all of the special options which will help narrow down a good estimated price.

the fender tag will help as well. open the hood and look at the inner top side of the driver fender, you are looking for a 2"x3" metal tag with a bunch of code #s on it, including the VIN#. if you can post those codes (again, hide some of that VIN# for your security) we can help decode it a little further. or a pic of the tag

Crap! The tag is gone. Hubby swears it was there but might have been thrown away by accident. But I found the build sheets. They are pretty dirty so I hope you can click and enlarge them. I have 2 sets..  It seems they don't show up in the pics very well. If you cant see I could try and tell you is marked. :/

Well that sucks. Just 1 last question and I will quit bothering you fine gentlemen. On the build sheet it is marked 3 on the colored bumper section but only on the RR (rear I am assuming) and usually with elastomeric bumpers came with painted side mirrors which these are. I thought I read that somewhere. Can you tell me what that means?  I just think its weird that a person would buy a new car and just change everything when he got it home. lol. Not doubting you anlauto, Just curious.

I lied. 2 questions. Knowing what you know now, what would you price it at?
