Hotchkis Sub-Connector Install Question
« on: October 30, 2015 - 04:44:00 PM »
My son bought the Hotchkis sub-frame connector kit for his '70 Challenger.  This is the one that has a bracket welded on the cross-member in front and the rear of the connector bolts up to the leaf spring shackle.   I read their installation instructions, but the question I have is about how to route the E-brake cable.  This is the '70 style of e-brake with the single cable going back to a little in front of the rear axle where it splits to each of the rear brakes.  When the connector is in place , the cable is outboard of it in front and inboard of it in the rear.  Does the cable just ride over the sub-frame connector?

The Hotchkis subframe connector sits low and does not come in contact with the floor pan.  The e-brake cable sits between the floorpan and the connector.  There is no reason to drill a hole in the connector for the cable, as is required by other connectors that match up to the floor pan.

Scale of 1-10, how much of a difference did they make?

Honestly I never drove the car before I installed them. Toxic did but he never drove it after they were installed, long story  :roflsmiley:  I did drive her after I installed them, but I also installed the entire package with UCA's, sway bars, the works. Handeled incredible, even with the stock torsion bars. I highly recommend.       :rebel:

I have subframe connectors in and the cable has plenty of room to go between the floorpan and the connector.

There are instructions on the website.

Thanks for all the quick responses.  I waited for over twenty minutes to ask tech support at Hotchkis and got cut off, so I appreciate all the knowledge.

8 to 9 for me. Convertible, it stopped all my rattles, the top frame was shaking and squeaking all the time before, and the car felt sturdy as a tank afterwards. This was the US Car tool version, but I guess Hotchkis are similar.

Here is a tip that I had to learn because the guy I got one of my cars from did it wrong.

Do not weld the subframe connectors so close to the floor pans they touch.  :bricks1:

Pissed me off so bad when I found out.
