Does SS springs lift the rear?
« on: October 31, 2015 - 06:32:07 PM »
Hi guys!

I want to give my 71 Challenger R/T some new springs (now I have the standard 383 springs in it). I think about the SS Springs!
My Challenger is really heavy and so I´ll take the 3600 lb. springs...

How hight will the challenger sit after installing these springs???

Thans for help!

I would say at least 3 inches higher. I find them to be rough on the street and so stiff that you get what is called a porpoise effect.

You are better off checking with ESPO.com. They will custom make and match your springs to give you the exact height you want.

Correct E-body SS springs will lift the rear of the car a good amount and are designed for drag racing applications.

My orange street/strip 1973 Challenger pictured below has the E-body SS springs that have been on the car for over 20 years now.
It still sits fairly high and rides pretty rough on the street but hooked pretty hard  at the track with 28x12.50 ET street tires.
Second pic shows how the SS springs really twist up in the front and raise the car up when launched.
I was actually able to get the front tire off the ground during a few hard launched with the 4 speed. :2thumbs:

On my mostly street driven 1971 R/T Challenger I installed a pair of left rear SS springs for a A body (P3412003) per Dr. Diff's advice.

Car sits at the perfect height for me and the softer A body springs give it a much better ride on the street.

In the picture the R/T Challenger has the front of the spring in the top hole of the front hanger which is the lower ride height position.
Going to the bottom hole raises the rear about an inch I'm told.

Rear tires on the R/T are 275/60-15 on 15x8 wheels with 4 1/2" back spacing and fit completely under the car with no rubbing.

I think the E-body SS springs on my orange 73 Challenger probably hook better at the track but the A body SS springs in the 1971 R/T have a lower ride height and a much better ride.  :2cents:

How much lb does have your ss springs on the 71 (street)-Challenger and on the (drag)- Challenger???
My Challenger weight is 1700kg and so I need the 3600lb springs, but if you say softer springs are better for the street...?  :working:

The A body P3412003 springs on the purple 71 Challenger are 3200 lbs.

I don't remember what lb. SS springs I put in the orange Challenger 20 pus years ago, but I would guess if 3600lb. springs are what E-bodies should have, that's what I put on the car.

The wheels are from MB Motoring, they are called Old School
http://www.summitracing.com/oh/parts/mbw-62618/overview/

All 4 are 15x8 with 4 1/2" backspacing
245/60-15 tires on front
275/60-15 tires on the back
