$39.99 Dash Cam vs. Go Pro
« on: November 06, 2015 - 10:48:35 PM »
Saw this on TV.
http://www.asseenontv.com/dash-cam-pro/detail.php?p=921414

I've never played with a Go Pro. Are they worth it?
Why $400 bucks vs. $40.00?

40 bucks sounds like a good deal if they work.

Probably be the like the difference between a Bic and a Zippo, Zippo gets passed on to your son.

I've been looking at a dash cam for awhile now. Electronics are so not my thing. I was impressed with Robs at Carlisle and thought it would be nice to have one for security purposes?  :-\

Rob what say you?  :feedback:

All of our drivers here have DVR dash cams  , cheap protection when you do not speak the language well  , Go pro is more vesatile , you can take them under water etc you just pay a lot more for the name

i highly recommend anyone installing a dash cam, it can save your ass. example: got into a rear end accident in Aug and the dash cam helped prove the car in front of me was distracted and stopped too quickly, actually hit the car in front of her before I rear ended her ..... so I was able to prove she was the primary at fault party. otherwise, based on circumstances I would have been liable for all 3 cars involved since I was the one in the back.

Go Pro is meant more as an 'action camera' to take on adventures, hiking, biking, skiing, etc. you have to manually start/stop the recording function

dash cams are meant to be in a car - the start/stop is automatic when you turn on the ignition - you dont' have to think about it, they just work. some also have GPS built in to display MPH (nice to be able to dispute tickets) on the recording.

I agree, a GoPro is not going to make a good "dash cam". You can record from your dash, sure, but it will not be an efficient way to do it daily.

I use a Magellan dash cam.

There is a wide range of products and prices.

Have not captured any good video like the Russians do everyday, but a couple of close calls . People changing lanes etc.

These work well

for that price (under $20) I'd get 2 - 1 up front, 1 out back. for that low of a price, there is NO excuse to not have one for personal peace of mind and the occasional youtube laugh

How can they make a 1080P resolution camera for under 20 bucks? That blows my mind, it HAS to be Chineese crap, just has to.

I have had one in my van which was the first for 2.5-3 years now , the only issue is the suction cup mount failed so I replaced it with this

COSTCO has an interesting one on-sale now... $99 down to $79 until the end of this month... I want something eventually for HSAX/HPDE/AX... Go Pros are expensive.
Autocross/road racers go in deeper... and come out harder!
