Gas Pump Recommendation Needed
« on: November 07, 2015 - 09:22:39 AM »
I have a leaking gas pump that is making a mess of my garage.

What is everyone running for a stock manual pump set up with a late 60's 440 4-BBL with a mild cam.  It's a cruiser.

Is there a stock option that works well?   Or best to go aftermarket (Holley, etc ....).

Thanks everyone ........ CHAPS!

I run Carter M4845 on all my stock 440 rebuilds. In fact I just ordered this one last night http://www.summitracing.com/dom/parts/crt-m4845/overview/make/dodge

You should be able to get then local at NAPA or CarQuest

Might condider a new fuel pump push rod while you're at it too :2cents:

I had a Carter 1994 on my '68 440, replaced with a Carter 4845 but original fuel line is wrong fitting for the 4845,
I had to end up using AN fittings and hose to run from fuel pump to Carter carb.
Bought from Summit, just have to watch inlet and outlet fitting sizes.

There's an adaptor you can buy to get the factory line to fit, line requires a little tweaking... :2cents:

I ordered the high flow pump from 440 Source and have had no issues.  I also replaced the rod, and would highly recommend you do too!

I had to get some new tools and got to make up the line and fittings , so new tools and learning some thing is OK.
Took three or four tries to get the fitting on , but ended up using a hose clamp to help get the hose into the fitting.

Used the DEI insulation on the fuel line.

watch the inlet port on the HV  pumps that can be disassembled , most is have seen have only a 1/4 " hole in the pump housing as cast & need to be opened up or they will be restrictive

Thanks for your responses.    YES .... I already changed out the fuel push rod.  My engine sat for many years on an engine stand due to this exact issue not diagnosed.    Not sure if these were normally swapped out when the fuel pump failed, but it probably should be.

Cheers ....
