WIW - '72 RR
« on: November 11, 2015 - 06:56:11 PM »
I'm interested in your feedback on value and issues with this '72 RR.  I am in conversations with the owner, and think the Bid Now is too high but am not sure how high.  Thanks for your help!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1972-Plymouth-Road-Runner-/151843588926?redirect=mobile&nma=true&si=k0plgYlRSc1FehowquSoEhAO3c0%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

This 1972 Plymouth Road Runner GTX is loaded with options some are factory installed and some I have added over the years.440 not numbers match but matching-numbers transmission HEMI 4-speed. Original TB3 (Petty Blue), very rare. 3.54 Trac-Pac DANA rear. Factory tachometer, Tuff wheel, strato ventilation, bucket seats, power steering, power disc brakes, hood pins, rear strobe stripe, rear defroster. I have added console, AM/FM/Cassette, 6-way seat, power windows, Air Grabber hood, front and rear spoilers, rubber bumpers, rear window louver and machine gun exhaust tips. One of 219 produced with 4-speed. It is the only '72 RR/GTX like it on planet earth. Includes Govier Report, shows only 2 of the 4 speeds known to exist in  Petty Blue. This is truly a one of a kind investment grade mopar.  Runs and drives as good as it looks.  Also have factory rallyes and BFGs if buyer wants them instead of aftermarket wheels that are on it.

Hard to put a price on a modified car because of the "cost to build factor"
Personally I don't see a correctly restored one going for much more then $25K-$30K  Does his up-grades make it worth twice as much  :dunno: :clueless:

Cool ride Dan, I'm loving that body style more and more, actually been eyeballin a 71 roadrunner on my craigslist.  As for value, obviously you are right, the buy it now is too high.  If it was a 71 it would be closer, but I think this car is mid 30's tops.  Awesome driver for sure, but not hugely collectible because it's a 72 and non numbers.  If this is a possible trade for your AAR clone, I would say u are entertaining the possibility of the trade because the Cuda has been for sale for so long and ur getting antsy.  I think ur Cuda is worth 5-10k more than this one.  Your call tho buddy, definitely a nice car, just my  :2cents:

Neat car but I see a lot of items that detract from value. I love 71-72 B-bodies so I watch them closely. I wouldn't do more than $25k and that's if everything you don't see is perfect. I hate the wheels but it says originals can come with it. Original radiator and rechroming the bumpers will cost more than you think for a start.

He doesn't even have the date coded plug wires, part numbered heater hoses etc....all the little details you'd expect on a top dollar resto :nono:

There are some liberties taken with the car, that's for sure.  Adding all that stuff, to me, adds nothing to the value of the car.  I'm not the guy to restore a car to showroom condition, but I do know these cars somewhat.  I've had a number of '71-'74 B-bodies.

The bumpers should be chrome.  Body-colored bumpers came with an added-on "eyebrow" on the front bumper of '71 Plymouth B-body coupes, but were not available for '72 at all.  The louvers should be black.  The only thing that's not painted blue, and it should be, is the engine, but its plug wires should be orange (electronic ignition).  The spoiler options were gone for '72.  There's a lot here to correct; gaffs like the engine color would drive me insane.  I consider painted bumpers to be a "cheap man's solution" to the issue of less-than-stellar chrome.  It rarely works.  He should've really put the Rallyes on it to advertise; those forklift-profile wheels are hideous on something so otherwise, er, "stock".

Unlike the E-bodies, though, the values on the B-cars don't tank in '72.  They tank with the '73, when Chrysler ruined both the looks and the suspension in one fell swoop (the only carryover body panel between a '72 Charger and a '73 is the rear window filler panel).  A well-restored 4-speed U-code car could bring what he's asking if not more, but he's way off the mark with all the gee-gaws, add-ons, errors and extra holes.  These are the last of the factory 440/4-speed/Dana cars, which does count for something.  As it sits?  I wouldn't go more than $25K on it, maybe $30K at the absolute outside if all unseen is perfect, but I could see someone thinking it was worth more than that and paying $35-$38,000.

Thanks for your feedback guys.  I was thinking mid $30s tops as well, but it is always good to get opinions from you guys that are more familiar with the 71-72 RRs. I think there are some incorrect things and things I would change, but there are also so really cool things he has done to this car and I think the '71-72 RR look great in Petty Blue.  However, I talked to the owner last night and he is sticking with his number in the high $50's so I told him best of luck.

Well, he obviously likes it more than anyone else.  He'll have it a long time at that number.

I love the look of the blue one ...wheels and all !  I would have preferred to see the rare 72 trunk and hood stripes though...

:iagree:  Very few cars can look good in Petty Blue, or maybe the color doesn't seem right on other cars.

I also like the '72 hood stripe and trunk, but like the go wing too.

Either way, the more I research SOLD '72's the more I am convinced this guy is about $20k too high.
