possible e-body trade for this b-body? WIW
« on: November 13, 2015 - 08:00:26 AM »
So, I have a restored 73 'Cuda 340 # match car, color change, no bs or fender tag. 170+ pics of the restoration, all done right, all AMD panels, no bondo shi*box.

Here is the ad describing the 70 Satellite.  PLEASE let me know if this would be an even trade?

1970 Satellite i purchased it as a 66K mile 318 grandma's car. Alpine white with burnt orange interior is the original color combo. JAN. 2013 Mopar Muscle cover car. New GTX grille and power bulge hood with turn signals and 440 call out. GTX restored tail lights. Short block built by Marsh Performance in N.C. . It's a '68 440 + .030, eagle h-beam rods, Forged crank, diamond forged pistons with 4cc valve reliefs,.002 in the hole, All the good hardware,Ported polished Aerohead 906's. Eddie RPM manifold, Comp .501/.501, 244/244 @ .050 cam, 750 mighty demon, 1 7/8 TTi's. 727 with 3500 stall and hurst pistol grip quarter stick shifter, 8 3/4 3.23 open currently (also have a rebuilt 4.56 sure-grip that i was going to change to 3.55 or 3.91's) , Complete MSD ignition. 275/60's. Last July I installed Slotted/drilled front disk brakes. 11" drums in the rear. New interior with perfect original dash pad and headliner. New front buckets. It's an awesome cruiser with plenty of power. I have driven from southern VA to Chryslers at Carlisle in PA and to the Nationals in ohio. I've owned the car for almost 8 years now.

yeah I agree on the shifter...my worry is that "clearly" I get bored quick and go through cars every couple of years...lol is a 70 Satellite w/ a transplant 440 (originally 318 car) gonna be more/equally marketable in a few yrs  as a 73 'Cuda would be?

I think the Cuda will retain it's value lead longer and will probably gain better since currently 72'-74's are underappreciated IMO

I agree...with the "cost-to build" factor I would say both cars are pretty much even.....if traded I think both parties would fair well.....but as a solid long term investment, the numbers matching original car will always win out.
E Body will always top B Body as well. :2cents:

It would be a different story if it was a real GTX, or even a Road Runner, but its just a Satellite.  A nice Satellite, but still.  Personally, I'm not a fan of the whole interior.  I like the white though and the 440.  As said above, your car will always be worth more.

That is a very nice Satellite, but I would keep the 'cuda. The prices on these cars are going up, now that 70-71s are at super high prices, you see 72-74 'cuda in driver condition for over 15k. This will continue I think and the later model E-Bodies will become hard to own too...

:iagree: with all. If it were a GTX or RR with a pistol grip 4spd and air grabber, very different story (at least for me).
Current Mopar
70 Challenger RT 440-6 EFI, 73 Cuda 416-6 EFI
05 Hemi Durango, 01 Ram 4x4, 14 Ram 2500 4X4, 10 PCP Challenger 6 spd RT, 01 Viper GTS ACR, 52 B3B w/330 Desoto Hemi, 70 Hemi RR (under const)
Past Mopars
9 x Challengers. AAR Cuda, 4 RR, 2 GTX, 4 Chargers, etc... (too many to list)

Let's look at this Satellite logically:  Remove the at-most-$5K engine and the $800 trans/converter combo and what have you got?  A $4,000 318 Satellite body with a 3.23 open rear and a $200 aftermarket shifter.  Take away the hood and grille and you're down to a $3,000 body.  I realize the car is worth more than the sum of its parts but with 35,000+ Road Runners built that same year, a clean 318 Satellite is not even anything special, much less a high-value car.

Is the Satellite gorgeous?  Absolutely.  Is it worth $20K?  Not a chance.  Somewhere between $12K-$15K is more like it.  I'm thinking this guy's into the car pretty inexpensively, and looking to upgrade to a higher-value body style with numbers if he can make it happen.  I don't think he's a scam artist or anything like that.  I'd probably do the same thing in his position.

Everyone is right. If I were that guy I'd make this trade every day. Comparably equipped E-bodies will always be worth more than a B-body. Don't get me wrong, my first Mopar was a 1970 383 4 speed Roadrunner and I would seriously think about trading my E-body for one, but that would be an emotional trade for me. Not one that makes financial sense.  When I first got into my car back in 1996 everyone wanted 70-71 cars and you could pick 72-74 cars pretty cheap. That's all changing as more people learn to appreciate the later years.
