Lets play, Why wont my engine start....
« on: November 15, 2015 - 08:47:16 PM »

Well, lets play, why wont my engine start,...
It is a 6.1 in a 71 cuda with a Hotwire harness and computer

First let me start with a coulpl dumb mistakes I made, I hooked the fuel lines up wrong, and ran pressure to the return and now my regulator gauge is acting stupid, did I kill it??

After I switched them it still wouldnt start, but I pulled the line at the engine and it was under a lot of pressure, so at least it got fuel, not sure of the pressure....

I have a cheapo ignition switch hooked up, got it to crank over and pulled a coil, and had good spark...
Could the ignition swith cause the computer to not work?
right now, the computer is just sitting on the floor, should I mount it for grounding?

could the fuel presure not allow it to start, the engine has been sitting since 2007, and only has 2500 miles on it, could the injectors all be clogged?

seems I have fuel and spark???t

I doubt you damaged the regulator by running fuel into it backward.  Have you checked your plugs for fuel?  I mean, you've obviously got it at the rail, but do you know your injectors are actually firing?  Break out the noid lights and see if you're getting an electrical pulse to the injectors.  If you are, you might want to try playing with your cranking pulsewidth.  Widen it in small increments and see if you can at least get it to cough.

What the man said and, you could give 'er a whiff of ether while cranking and see if she farts. That'll tell you if it's fuel or spark oriented. My money's on electrical. FOR SURE, mount the ECM and ground it to the engine and see if that helps. Good luck
