110v mig welder with argon
« on: November 19, 2015 - 05:49:20 PM »
Hello all

I am about to start on a new project, but don't have a 220v outlet at the moment. Does anyone use a 110v mig welder when plug, puddle welding body panels, trunk floors etc?

Thanks

I used a Lincoln 110 volt machine on my fender project, and subframe connectors...... and all the welding on my car.

a 100-150a 110v machine will handle anything you want to weld on the car. The only hesitation would be axle brackets with something less than ~140a.

Eastwood 135- I have welded almost everything with it.  Great adjustments for panel work.

Thanks for responses! Is a common household outlet 110v, 115v, or 120v?

Yes it's 110-125 volts. You will need at least 15 amp circuit. 20 amps would be better.

:iagree: And a dedicated circuit as well would be beneficial. I have a Lincoln 135 and has done very good on the car sheet metal, and agree on heavier stuff like spring perches and similar you could use the smaller ones, but with a couple overlapping passes. If you have more than a few heavier items to weld a welder with 140 amps or more would be better. Again, for a few heavy welds the smaller ones should be more than ample and the additional cost for a larger welder may not be a necessity.  :2thumbs:

Also extension cord heavy gauge and short as possible. For welding sheet metal I use .023 wire, .035 wire would be for me doing frame welding with that machine. That's just me.

Where you live, do you have an electric dryer?
That's what I used to run 220v.

Yup quite certain that would solidify the divorce. Oven used to bake paint, dishwasher as a parts washer, cupboard as a supply cabinet,  etc............. And now she's hanging clothes in the basement.

But honey. I'll build you an outside clothes line. The towels and sheets will have that lovely outside smell of fresh air.

Gas, gas, gas, I think you should be using a 75/25 mix Argo/co2. This is what most of our welder so used for thin metal. My  :2cents:

Yes use "C-25" gas for MIG welding body panels. You Should get better flow and wet-out of the weld puddle resulting in very little clean up grinding. A major time saver!
