I found a lower rad support from a 70 and straightened & blasted it. Not happy with the northeast rot, so I got a new Dynacorn one. I'm really impressed with the quality and thickness of the steel. Been practicing drilling out spot welds.

Haven't seen too many posts from you in the last couple years. Looking forward to seeing your work on the T/A. Nice car!

The original on the T/A is bent, twisted, broken & welded. The potential donor from another 70 was a bit too rotty.

Erased the home made, crooked stripes on the driver's side today.

You can see where they cut the stripe with a blade, right on the fender, right through the paint.

I buffed the upper door & quarter. It's a little blotchy, but I'm thinking the new stripe will cover most of it. Has to be the shiniest this paint has been in 20 years. Still deciding what to do with the fender.

This is the $12 Eraser from NAPA. The 3M one was $42. ($52 at Carquest)

They said let's remove it, no matter what. Anyway, that eraser pad is a handy tool for sure... Are you thinking about painting the fender ?

The slices in the paint aren't from removal of the old stripe. They're from when the "new" stripe was made. They actually cut the vinyl on the car. What was used as a guide is anybody's guess. They were close to being right, but not *that* close.

A little sanding...

Primer...

Wetsand...

Color...

Later this week, I'll wetsand the paint and buff out the upper fender, then the new stripe can go on. Bear in mind, I'm not "restoring" the car right now...just getting it to the point of being a respectable cruiser. Eventually, it will get the full monte, but I really want to drive it for a while first.

:clapping:  Very nice ! I was thinking of painting the fender. It seemed to me unrepairable.

I like the way you're preserving this car. I would think hard before tearing it down for a full resto. It's going to turn out pretty cool the way you're doing it.
