Congrats on getting such a unique car!  I don't know whats more unusual for a T/A, the bench column shift combo or that awesome gator top.  Throw in the brown paint and its a freak!  Although not nearly as rare as your T/A, my 70 Roadrunner came with bench & column shift and right now has the original 383/727/8.75 drive train.  Years ago I put a B&M floor shifter in the car and swapped the top of the steering column from a manual car so it would 'look right'.  Since then I've hung 4 speed pedals and am planning to finish the switch to a pistol grip 4/5 speed, but a voice in the back of my head keeps saying that its only original once and its lasted 45 years the way it is... Decisions, decisions.

Thanks, Jim

A little wetsanding before the sun came up...

Buffing, buffing, more buffing... Stripes will go on when I'm fresh and the wind dies down.

If you look closely, you can still see a ghost of the old "T/A". Again, hoping the new stripe will hide it.

New Challenger Gary stripes! I tried the dry application method on the door, but got a lot of bubbles. May need to re-do that piece. Went back to the standard soapy water approach on the fender & quarter with much better results.

Dry "hinge" method...

Traditional wet method.

Sometimes they go away if the vinyl has grooves in the adhesive. I don't think this set does, but we'll see. Not a biggie if I have to do it again. Will be a lot easier to line up the second time!

Good progress so far!
What are your thoughts on the gator grain top, are you going to put on a new one soon, or wait on a ground up restoration to replace that?
I stored my '71 last month and one of the cars at the facility there is a gator grain T/A!  It's F4 green, was also an auto converted to 4 speed. Sadly, I was told its been sitting there around 25 years, and it's a gonna restore it someday but almost certainly never will story. Down the line maybe there will be an estate sale situation and it will get in the hands of someone who will do it.  Looked pretty solid from what I saw, and at least it's inside and dry.
A guy somewhere in the area who posts here sometimes, hato, says he has an F4 gator grain too.
And in 2008 I bid on a restored B3 gator grain 4 speed at a Mecum auction.  I didn't win it, but just as well, it was restored from a rust bucket, had Palco door panels, repro hood, and who knows what else wrong with it.  Cool to see though as gator grain tops are a rare sight!

The plan is some butt-welded metal repair around the back window and a new dutchman. The rot there turned out to be worse that I first thought, though I was not surprised. Paint that, matched as close to the original color as possible, then the new top gator goes on.

I'm going to swap the dash pad out with a better original while the glass is out. Considering a complete dash assembly swap with rallye gauges and store the original stuff in case someone ever wants to put it back. I always hated that these were JH cars and most have a standard dash.

That will be sweet when it's done. I used to really dislike green cars. Not so much any more.

Making good progress...  I also owned a Gator Grained T/A.... EF8 H6X9 Console Auto, Std Cluster...  It was the early 90's & as California cars go it was rusty (needed lower quarters) so I dumped it.... Pretty foolish but there were better cars out there... These days I'd be super stoked to get such a decent car...
