Dash Pad advice - seeking help in beating this dead horse
« on: November 24, 2015 - 11:05:16 AM »
Ok guys,
In laying out the path for this winters work on the "Redfish" I have decided to start with replacing the electrical/gauges/interior upgrades.

The car has an abs dash cap right now and it doesn't look bad but I don't want to worry about it sitting in the 100° heat here in the south all day at a show and me return to find the dash buckled into the windshield.

I have read every post I could find on the subject and thought I had found the answer in going thru Dave and Rosevillemopars, then I read where he is not doing that any more. Every other post suggest you may or may not get your dash back in the next year if you get it back at all :pullinghair:

So, I plan to pull my dash, and evaluate it's condition then either buy a rebuilt dash pad and turn mine in as a core or, if I don't get an good direction here, repair the foam myself then have a nice leather cover made for it.

This is a driver and I am not a stickler for perfect reproduction stitching or grain as I don't know the difference but, I do want a quality looking dash.

What about the dash pads I see advertised on ebay for $600, any experience with these?

With this said, please give any and all advice, direction or experiences so i can get going.

Thanks for all the help.

Cheers!

With Ultimate Rides it can be a crap shoot, sometimes you get a good pad and sometimes you don't. I have heard if you buy through them on ebay ("4thepool") that you may do ok, as Paypal protection has your back and they know it, so it doesn't help their cause at all to send out a pad that is going to come back to bite them. But definitely get a steel core pad, not an ABS core.

Otherwise your other option is to go with Just Dashes, but you're looking at around $1200.00 there.

EV2RTSE,
Thanks for the reply. Are the pads from "Ultimate Rides" steel core? I assume this is a question that must be asked.

I just called Just Dashes and you are spot on at $1200 plus shipping. He said if I sent it next week, it would be completed the first of March.

I plan to pull the dash maybe next week and make a decision so any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

UR offers steel or ABS so definitely specify a steel core pad. An ABS pad is a few hundred bucks cheaper but can give you problems after it has been exposed to high temps for a while.

I was under the impression that Superior Dash pads were resellers for UR?

I think that's correct.

Stay far away from UR, it's a total crap shoot with them.  I gave up after 4th pad and settled for the crap they delivered.
Pay the $1200 and get Just Dashes.
Only way I'd consider UR is if you see it in person.

Anyone dealt with DashPad Pros?

I'm in the same boat, I need to get the dash pad replaced on my 70 Cuda and it really does not sound like there are any good options out there.

:pullinghair: :pullinghair: :pullinghair:Well, I'm so mixed up I don't know what to do. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
I spoke with Just Dashes and was told if I sent them my steel core next week, I would have it back in early March and the cost would be $1200 plus shipping both ways.
The Ultimate Ride dashes are on ebay at $659.99 plus shippping. They say a core is required so does that mean the price of the core is in addition to the $659.99 price, which I read is around $175. So you initial investment is $875 plus shipping?  I have read everywhere that Ultimate Rides is a PITA to deal with and getting your money back from them for the core is harder than superman's knee caps.

My car is not a show car or a number matching museum piece so I am looking for something that looks and fits good. I am positive I could not tell the difference in grain patterns or puffyness if that helps.

At this point, from what all I have read, your better off to bite the bullet, spend the money and go with Just Dashes.

Please, Please, any input, experience or advice is greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

I heard Graveyard Carz uses a different vendor but it's not JD.
Might be Dash Pad pros?

What's involved in making these and why are they so expensive?

Low demand and many hours prepping to do is probably why.

Mines still ok, but I guess not enough people for a group buy?
