Got a rotisserie
« on: November 26, 2015 - 05:23:58 PM »
Got a rotisserie today, paid 580 bucks, homemade, seems well done, height adjustment with a threaded rod. Does anyone know the approx balance point (heigt measurement) for a convertible? (No doors)

Nice find sc. Can't tell from the pic, is it an acme threaded rod. ??  As far as balancing the first time I did it I was scared as he!!.  :scared:  I just kept playing with it till it finally spun. Took about an hour till I felt safe.        :rebel:

Yes, thats what its called, a welded nut on top to turn it with. I guess if the balance is wrong it will tip over when you try to turn it....I can adjust the arms with the wheels also, it gets pretty wide.

Great price and looks well made.  You could not buy the materials to build one for that price.  The balance point can be found by experimentation but the pivot points front and rear must be square with each other or it will bind when rotated.  When correct it should spin freely.

When looking at it, the weekest point to me seems to be the one bolt that holds the T-bar to the frame, that can be positioned in 4 different holes to adjust the height on the T-bar, the bolt is 1/2", one on each side, is that enough to hold the weight? I can always drill another hole and use 2 bolts on each side, or use a thicker bolt.

:wavingflag: did you get it used or did someone make it to sell?

This guy was gonna make one for his Mustang, he had a bunch of material laying around, and it was enough to make 3-4 of them, so he did, kept one and sold the rest. They all sold in a few days. I asked if he was gonna make more for that price, but he said its not worth it if he has to buy the material.

Attached are pictures of my barracuda vert on the rotisserie I made.  You can see where the axis of rotation ended up to balance the body.  I suspect your challenger will be similar.

To achieve this, I had to make offset front brackets so that I could attach to the bumper bolt locations yet have the axis raised.

The front and rear brackets were made so that the valences could be installed.

I also made braces for the doors.  Let me know if you need details.

Wow, that thing looks heavy duty! Could probably hold a Hummer with the drivetrain in... :)
On the main pillar, you have 2 lockbolts and a sprint thru it, mine only has one lockbolt there, (in addition to the acme rod) maybe I should add one more. Those pictures are perfect, showing the pivot axle, mine should be the same, gonna measure clearence so I get the brackets right also. Got a small garage and it does not have high ceilings, gonna be tight to turn it but it will work. I thought I just weld door braces on for now, unless I find any good bolt-on spots. Thanks Larry!

Soundcontrol - thanks for the compliment on my rotisserie.  It is quite stout.

Attached are pictures of the door bracing I made.  It is based on a design I saw on Clark Classic Customs web site.  I used 1" square tubing, a piece of channel for the front mounts (bolted thru the dash), a piece of angle iron for the rear upper mount using the folding top mounting holes, and a drilled piece of angle iron at the bottom rear mount using the seat belt bolt.

With this arrangement, the doors can stay on.

That looks very heavy duty also. I was just thinking of welding one brace straight across, have seen others do that. I got subframe connectors welded in already.

I welded in US Cartool subframe connectors and upper control arm braces while on the rotisserie. No change in door gaps from on the ground (stock), to braced frame on the rotisserie, to fully welded.

Was yours a convertible? I did it the same way but with a coupe.
