Potbellies are cute, smart, trainable and nice, but don't think that they won't grow big.
Just because the word "potbellie" makes you think "small" think again. They can get 350 lbs or more.
Pigs are very smart animals. Probably much smarter than dogs, and closer to humans. They live a long time. Be prepared to put in a lot of time and effort.
Did I mention? They can grow big, HUGE. 350 lbs. or more. Same as any other type pig. ****ing HUGE! What are you going to do when it get's that big?
Is it going to be a house animal?, Part of the family? NO? Then why get it in the first place - really. Seriously? To amuse your kids?
Just so you can say to your friends - hey, I've got a pig out back, want to see him? What kind of life would that be for ANY animal? To be a circus sideshow attraction to be abused by drunk people once in awhile and neglegted all the rest of the time.
Seriously, you don't sound responsible or mature enough to own any animal. Just saying. I don't think that you have thought it through very well.
I've owned dogs all of my life, and most of them have lived far longer than their average life expectancy. Mainly because they are a part of my family, and I knew what it took to take care of them going in.
I treat them as one of my own. Chow 17 1/2 years, lab mix 18 3/4 years, etc. yeah i could go on, but what's the point?
I treated them with respect. They WERE my family. Had to put them down due to cancer-not like they were dying and I let them linger. Yeah, it sucked. it is what it is. I'm sure a pig would last that long or longer.
Are you ready for that kind of a commitment?
serious questions need serious answers.
Read up before you make a decision. A pet - ANY pet, is a life long commitment. Not just - HEY! This sounds like a cool garage pet! ROFLMAO!
Unless you plan on culling it at a young age and eating it.
I had a buddy that trained a rabbit to "go" in a cat poop box. It would jump up and sit in your lap. After many years, when it got old, he killed it and cooked it.
I could not see myself doing that.
Whatever you decide, good luck.
Seriously, PLEASE think this thru, sober up, before you make this kind of a decision. You might be better off with a duck or something. Serious.
You don't sound like you have researched this at all. AT ALL. or you would know better.
