need to remove charcoal canister
« on: November 28, 2015 - 10:31:43 PM »
team,

I need to remove my Charcoal canister from my 73 Cuda, I dont want to rebuild it so i want to remove it, the foam has broken down and all the charcoal has fallen out. I can simply block the vacum line off at the carb, and I can probably just block the float bowl line off at the carb as well, but what about the line back to the tank, can I simply cap it off as well if I have a venting gas cap???

Ok, a little more, the vent line to the tank I can block it off as the gas cap is vented, the small vacum line I can block off, the float bowl vent, can I simply block it off or will that cause me grief somehow

AS long as the tank can vent you shouldn't have any performance issues, some folks complain of smelly fumes but it would be no worse than earlier autos that didn't come with sealed systems

Thanks Bullitt,
I have the tank venting covered, what about the carb bowl vent, I have a factory 73, 340 that has the bowl vent that goes to the canister, can I just cap it off at the carb?

You can cap it or leave it open, won't hurt a thing... You could leave the fuel tank line open too... Only one that matters is the purge line which would be a vacuum leak it left uncapped...
