Intake gasket install

The Feel Pro blue intake gaskets, should I NOT use any sealer on theese? I read in the instructions that not to use sealer on fiber faced gaskets, are theese fiber faced? (if so, not even around the water channels?) I will use the Permatex on the cork end gaskets and some silicone on the ends where the cork gaskets meets the blue gasket.

water channels on intake?

is this a 440?

if you put on the intake to the heads, without the gaskets, and you see no significant gaps, then
you will probably be ok without sealant. But sealant can't hurt, and I have used it.
72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

It's a 340, it says to install fiber faced gaskets dry, and I don't know if that blue one is a fiber faced gasket...
Got no gaps, intake fits well.

I would spray a light coat of "Copper Coat" on both sides of the gasket and wait a few minutes for it to get a little tacky and put it together.... :2cents:

I'm a fan of the copper spray as well

ALL -- I was an engineer with Fel-Pro from 1976-1998 (later, Federal-Mogul bought out Fel-Pro...)... I WROTE THOSE and all INSTRUCTIONS.  The fiber face and raised embossed ridges do the sealing... NO CHEMICALS REQ'D!... just a dab of RTV at the 4-corner joints.  FORGET THE COPPER SPRAY.
Autocross/road racers go in deeper... and come out harder!

Yep, Mitch is right, I also posted the question on the Fel-pro forum last night, got an answer in 3 hrs. Great support they have!
Some gaskets are good with sealer, not theese blue ones though.


"Hi Ken,Don't use any sealer along the intake manifold gaskets or around the ports. A dab of RTV at each corner where the ends seals meet the intake gaskets is all that's needed. You can use high tack or brush tack to hod the cork end seals in place, but don't apply more than what's needed to hold them in place. We hope this helps! "

That's how i installed my Fel Pro instake gaskets (440 engine) just a little RTV in the corners, no leak in two years...

Bigblocks are way better, no waterchannels in the intake and the intake don't seal the lifter valley. This is the first time I put a small block together.
