Just want to make sure - no coolant question
« on: December 03, 2015 - 11:23:34 AM »
I don't see how this would cause a problem, but, any issue with draining the majority of the coolant out on the engine for the winter.

I want to repaint my rad and ditch my headers this winter, and obviously I need to drain the coolant to do either of these.

Is there any reason to think this would cause a problem during the impending long cold winter?? :canada:

The only issue is the water pump seal may dry out & leak in the spring...

Paint rad in a day or two reinstall it couple days later no problem. But if u leave it off over a month you can plug the bottom hose install exhaust manifold bolts into heads and keep anti-freeze in the engine.
Do not flush anti-freeze and leave only water in engine if you live in
area going below freezing.

Given the weather, getting colder, I am not sure I can paint it until the spring.

I think I will just leave it for now.  My main project will be rebuilding the steering box and luckily I have a spare, so I can strat on that for now.

Then I can do the rad (which is starting to rust) and manifolds when things warm back up.

:thinkerg:    Jason, listen. Inside the house is warm, right. ?  Ok, put some cardboard on the bed and paint the radiator there. Tear down the steering box on the kitchen table, then put all the parts in the dishwasher for cleaning.    :2thumbs:
You will be ready to go come spring.   :2thumbs:    I mean your a single guy right.   :clueless:  Well if not single, then you might be dead.   :faint:   :misbehaving:   Just tryin to help.    :roflsmiley:                 :rebel:

Well I will be single after trying any of the above!!! :stomp: :stomp: :stomp:

I don't mind working out in the cold...so I will just pick away at things over the winter.
