I too have tried to "like" the show but just cannot. Mark is a egotistic idiot who I would never let touch one of my cars. What turned me off immediately is his repeated statements of being "the worlds foremost expert on Mopars". He is absolutely irritating to watch and infuriating to listen to. Yes they have built some nice cars but not any nicer than many shops around the country. If you can stand to watch more than one episode, there are numerous instances where he/they are absolutely wrong in what they are saying or have no clue what they are doing as evidenced by having sand in an intake (anytime you blast anything like an intake you thoroughly wash it, even X brand guys know that). Point here is that there are so many better qualified and experienced builders out there.
As for the rest of the crew (old or new), some seem to just want to work while others are or were going out of their way to get face time on screen. The new season is significantly better than the earlier one/s but still too much BS to deal with. I love Mopars and would love to watch a show dedicated to them, but not this one.
The only saving grace to this show is that they are saving some cars and because it is on TV, people will get the chance to get a car restored that otherwise they may not (the fame/notoriety aspect). That said, I am quite sure that there is or will be a "value increase" created by having a car done on the show; in other words is wont be long (if it hasn't happened already) they someone will believe their car is worth more because it was restored on TV by these clowns. It will not matter how good or bad the car is, because it was on TV will supposedly make it worth more. In the long run, this show it probably hurting the hobby more than helping it because like BJ, everyone who has any Mopar will now believe it is worth XXXXXX because they saw something like it on this show.
All this said, it is America and we can all choose to watch what we like. I choose not to watch this circus and would not go anywhere near them for any purpose. Sorry for the rant, but this is a sore spot for me personally. I am not a fan of Chip's work on Mopars but at least he has some actual skill, Mark and his motley crew are barely parts installers. If it were not for some high profile real experts in the hobby, GYC would still be turning out utterly incorrect restorations. I am not a "resto" guy but if you are going to do it and make huge claims of being "the best in the world", you should at least do it correctly. Being able to recite a part number doesn't make you an expert.
