bolt holes for rear seatbelts
« on: December 03, 2015 - 10:20:32 PM »
Are the rear seatbelt mounting points the same for a convertible and hardtop? This is for a 70. My issue is the outside rear at the wheel tubs. I know there is a bracket welded to the wheel tube on a hardtop to mount the belts but is a convertible the same. My 70 convertible does not have the brackets and the floor is covered with dynamat/insulation so can't find any place for the belts on the outside, found the others under the car and poked through the insulation. Pics if you got em, thanks.

Thanks, that is exactly what I am looking for. Unfortunately my car is missing those brackets for the seatbelts. Hopefully AMD has them.

Just wondering.... ( I  don't have my car apart) do regular hardtops have that piece that goes on a 45 degree angle
( under the window crank) from inner body to the floor pan? My thoughts are " what parts could I add from a convertible that compensate structure wise for not having a roof that will add strength/take out flex in a hardtop?"

Hi, I know It and old tread put I was looking for the seatbelts information and found that one. It answer my question but bring a another one. In the first picture there is only one set of hook for the seat bottom and in the second picture there is 2 hooks? Is that normal? If you have 2 sets witch one to use?

My car only has one on passenger side and one on drivers side. You have a pretty sharp eye to catch that, I looked right past it. I don't know but will guess it's a factory screw up.  :dunno:

I think that's fairly common on convertibles. I remember reading a post on that before. If I had to take a guess, I'd say that the hardtop brackets were pre welded to the floor pans when they arrived at the factory. The convertibles probably require the brackets to be in a slightly different location. The factory just welded new brackets in place. It wasn't cost effective to remove the old brackets.

I dont really have sharp eyes we have a convertible and never notice the 2 hooks. Wen I saw the the picture I ran in the garage to see ours, we have 2 sets to. We are not the ones that took the seats out of the car when we send it to the body shop 10 years ago. I'm putting the rear interior back in and I dont know witch set of hooks I will have to use.

I would try the rear set of hooks first. My convertible only has one set, the front ones. If I install the seat the proper way, meaning inside the hook, the seat bottom is too far from the seat back. There is a huge gap where they meet. To make it look decent I have to install the seat bottom so that it's behind the hook/bracket. I think my car was suppose to have the rear set of hooks too. Someone dropped the ball at the plant. Also the build sheet I found (back in 1980) was coded for a hardtop, maybe that had something to do with the missing brackets.

I emailed the person that took those pictures and asked if they know anything about the missing hook.
