Newbie (Well....1st post in 11 years) - 1971 383 Challenger Convertible

Hey guys,

Whats up. Thought I'd introduce myself and give a little back story. I was looking at my history and noticed I posted in 2003 that I figured I'd have my car done in 3-4 months. Ha! I wish. Bought it 12/15/2002 (before wife, kids, etc...). Got the car (body) with #'s matching 383 and tons of boxes with some of the parts/accessories.  Previous owner had started resto then stopped. Took it to a guy and he kept it from 12/02 til around 2006. During that time I accumulated all the OEM parts I could find plus year one, etc...After 4 years  I got frustrated  , went and got it and BAM sat in friends carport for 8 YEARS  (fyi got married in 2004, 1st kid 2006, 2nd in 2009). The good thing is that I have been able to pay for everything (including initial purchase) as I've gone along so.....I got that going for me I guess. Hello 2015.....I've got an awesome guy on it right now. He started a few months ago and promises I'll be driving it this spring.    Anyway, ever since I was a kid I have always wanted one of these. I remember going to Mopar shows with my old man and I would always gravitate to the rag tops. This is an 1971 Dodge Challenger 383 convertible. Its painted GA-4 Light Gunmetal Metallic "Winchester Gray". Found out when I bought it that only 167 big block convertibles were produced in 1971. 126 auto & 41 4-speeds. Mine is an automatic. Wish I knew how many were painted this color.  It came with white interior, black stripes, black top, factory air, rallye dash and some other cool options (a 2 fender tag car). It was originally sold in Memphis TN. A guy traded in his GTO and some boot HA!. I have all original paperwork as well as build sheet. Still have car title in 2nd owners name from 1976. This was a demo car in TN prior to sale. Sorry for long post but I'm just as excited now at 38 as I was at 25 the day I bought it. I just wish my uncle was still here to see it come to completion. Luckily, my Pops is. He's the guy that got me started and he has a 1968 GTX of his own that he's owned since I was a little fella. I can't wait to go to car shows together with our rides.  Anyway, hopefully I will be able to post more pics as I get em. Take Care....... GO HOGS!

Well, let me be the first to say- welcome back! What a great story and I hope, a great ending- if your guy keeps his promise. I also grew up in a car family and it's one of those unheralded gifts we sometimes overlook. As a dad, now you get it. Enjoy your time with the Challenger and your dad.

First welcome back, second pictures need to be around 700 pixels wide and not super high resolution... Decent but not super high res...  There are plenty of ways to reduce file size depending on your computer... A super easy way is to email the photo to yourself, the computer will offer to reduce file size...

BTW Cool car... I've had a few Challenger verts through the years...  Saved this one back in 95..

Welcome back! I took a 15 year break during the kids period also, got 3 of them. Cool that you kept your car though, I sold mine when the first kid came. Here is a site that you can use to fix the picture size:

welcome back!  im sure the car will be worth the wait.  as for pics, if youre not easily able to reduce them, probably the best way to go is to get a photobucket account and link them here.  either way wed all love to see them!
