Steering Coupler Clamp replacement
« on: December 04, 2015 - 10:36:44 PM »
On the steering coupler re-build kit it includes the clamp to seal the grease seal on.
Are those available separate?

The issue I have is that my steering wheel isn't sitting like it should.
Car drives and steers fine.

Did I put the grease coupler on 180 degrees off?
Or can I just rotate the bolting of the wheel so it sits right.

There is a notch and a dot that should be lines up so that your not 180 degrees out?   I don't have a picture but I'm sure someone will be along soon to post one up.

Somethings off.

I need the right procedure so it all sits right.
I don't want to pull the steering column back out until I have 100% where my error is.

If you're 180 out that's most likely what the problem is. If is just a few degrees (like say 30 or 40) then the tie rods are adjusted wrong.

Hoping it's just the tie rods then. I'll try and get a picture how it's sitting.
Probably next week-end.

The steering wheel "can" has a master spline so it only goes on one way. The wheel has a slot that goes into a key on the "can" so it can only go on one way as well. When you assemble the steering column shaft into the coupler, the notch on the front of the coupler should be pointing straight up and the steering wheel should be at the centered position (if that makes sense). Thats the way I remember it anyway. I'll take a photo of a coupler tomorrow if needed.

There is a notch on the coupler and a dimple on the steering shaft that should line up. If you see the notch and not the dimple, you are 180* out.

As Sheldon pointed out...

Thats the way I remember it anyway. I'll take a photo of a coupler tomorrow if needed.

This photo should make it clear.... The index notch lines up with the missing spline on the steering box.... With the missing spline pointed straight up the wheels should be straight...
