When I did my Cuda I trimmed short and then kept trimming until it jut fit. I wanted to leave as much metal as possible. It isn't required, just how I did it. If you cut as described here (3/4" from the hump) you will be good; I just didn't want to have to add anything if I screwed it up.

I left the little piece of floor hump that goes on top of the trans cross member. I didn't want any extra water or dirt getting into it. You'll see when you start trimming.
