New Owner 1970 Challenger

Hello everyone, I recently purchased a 1970 R/T. I am looking forward to interacting and learning from you all. As with any 45 year old machine it will need attention here and there. First on the list is the lack of powering steering. I would appreciate and advice on parts procurement.

Any additional info?  Tell us more about the car.  Pictures are always good. 

Are you trying to add power steering or just fix the existing power steering?

Thanks everyone for the welcome replies. She's basically a stock 440 R/T, 727 (originally a 383, 4spd). The car was not optioned with power steering. I was thinking that it would be nice to not only upgrade to power but also improve the steering/handling in the process. If any one has experience with this please let me know what you have learned. As to pictures, I've got to learn to downsize. I will get some up soon.

Awesome!  I prefer IMGUR myself, but some folks like photobucket for free hosting.

Great sounding car. 

I haven't done the conversion.  From what I recall, you will need a pump, bracket, hoses, and new pitman arm as well as a new steering column or adapter.  The lengths for the columns weren't the same.

I did a conversion some years ago, basically you just need to source the PS components (steering box, pump, lines and coupler). Firm feel is an awesome source, however if you look around online there are others as well. Do some good research and purchase wisely. I would not recommend buying a lot of used equipment unless it is to have it rebuilt. If you call firm feel and tell them what you are doing they will direct you accordingly. It is not a hard conversion; the coupler issue can be a little confusing at times, but I would recommend you get the parts and make sure everything fits together before you install anything. While you are at it, get the fast ratio pitman and idler arms; you will be much happier when it is done. If you go with firm feel, go stage 3 box (stage 1 is stock, 2 a little better, 3 is the best). If you go with stage 2 you will wish you went with 3 (there are several on here that will attest to this).
