WIW: Local cars on CL
« on: December 06, 2015 - 02:30:16 PM »
Hi guys, a '72 and a '74 Challenger came up for sale on my local Craigslist in the last few days and I was wondering what you all thought about the prices on them.

The first is a '72, the poster doesn't mention it being a Rallye or really anything about the car. It looks like its in about a million pieces but the ad says "ALL PARTS INCLUDED" $7500

The second is a '74 standard challenger. 318, auto, flat hood. Looks pretty rough. $7500

Do these prices seem high to you guys or is it just me???

$4-5K for the '74 and you'll barely know what you are getting into body wise. the '72 is a little high, but you can clearly see almost everything going on with that one. I'd go with the '72 between the 2

I paid $5k for my '72  Rallye and think I got a steal of a deal on it. Mine is in very good condition and was probably worth 7k in my opinion but hese prices just seemed a little to high for the condition especially that '74

It seems that every state has a Greenville in it, so I am curious about location.  Both cars I wouldn't even buy without seeing them first. Body and frame work are your most extreme costs. If you can not do either , then you will be building this car for love and hobby. Either way, it is always money better spent on any car with less rust and body panel replacement parts. Even paying 2500 pluss for shipping is way better than actual costs of repairing.  Salt in the 70's and 80's was your enemy.

C4orce, if that's your local craigslist then you're local to me; I'm in Greenville. I'm not a buyer, but I'd love to hear what you find with these if you check them out.

Yea I'm local to you HK... I'm not interested in buying I was just curious if these $7k+ prices were normal.

Before I bought my challenger I was unfamiliar with mopars. I've learned a lot very quickly as far as sources for restoration parts and a lot of model particular details from this site which is very informative but the values of these things seem all over the place from site to site.

Just trying to get a little insight to the market I guess.

People have become accustom to bargaining on CL.  So I think most everyone lists things at least 25% higher than they expect to get.
I learned this through selling a couple of item.  I put a low/quick sell price on a couple of IPhones, even though they were a good deal, people just would not pay they asking price.
Resisted them later at a higher price, let them beat me down and ended up getting more than I originally listed them for.

From my experience, if you listed a $100 bill for sell for $75, people would offer $50.
