A few answers to your questions I'm planning to buy it from a guy in Delaware and having it shipped to Washington state. I don't think I'd mind it being on a open carrier, as its not a show car.

I used a broker United Car Transport out of Chicago a few years back.  It really comes down to the driver and how well he takes care of his haul.  The actual carrier I had was really good.  There are car shipping forums you can check out for recommendations.

My deal was I needed pick-up within a two day window.  None of the big guys like Reliable would guarantee less than 7 days.

I'm a fan of Reliable Transportation.   I used someone else (found via a broker I found on Google) for the transport from Washington state to Iowa where my car was stripped and painted.   The car ended up on the top level front of the rack of an open rig and basically got grit blasted from road salt and rocks.  After it was painted, I had the car shipped here to NY on Reliable in a closed carrier.   The drivers were a husband/wife team.   They were very patient and careful, especially after the car wouldn't start which required them to winch it off the trailer.  I think it was a couple hundred dollars more to ship with Reliable vs. the broker route.   If you're not worried about the paint, save your money and go with a broker.   Otherwise, go with Reliable.   http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/Smileys/default/2cents.gif

Open carriers are significantly cheaper.  I used Link Auto for my '71 Challenger (driver quality) on an open carrier from Dallas to Denver.  http://www.linkautotransport.com/   (sorry, best pic I have since they delivered it around midnight)



For my '70 Barracuda from Maine to Denver I used Troy Car Inc (http://www.troycarinc.com).  Very nice enclosed trailers, and high dollar cars (Lambo, Maserati, Rolls Royce, and several race cars were on the truck with my Cuda).
