Any tips on how to get the unit out of the car?

Mine is a 70 383 car with headers

Yep...take the header off, let it hang down. Drop the starter and the box should drop out.

That's what I had to do on my small block.

No plans to.  I have not had any issue with the stock style retainer.

 :iagree: I've installed easily 50+ & haven't had any problem with one in many years... At first I did till I developed a method that works for me...

My 70 is leaking out of the top shaft. Would tightening the big castle type nut help any?

You mean where the steering shaft connects or the adjustment on the cross shaft??

If it is loose and leaking from the O-ring in the power unit head...tightening it may help.  If it is leaking from the seal around the input shaft tightening it will not help.

However that rear seal can be replaced with the steering box still in the car, just gotta pull the column, I use a sharp punch to make a small hole in the metal face of the seal, then use a long  #4 sheet metal screw, put it in a couple threads then grab it with some wire cutters & lever the seal out.... New one is installed using a piece of PVC pipe as a driver...

PS section starts on page 576.

I see three seals listed in 1970 Challenger manual and looks the same in 1973 parts catalog.
If you look at the photo and identify which part, can get other numbers if needed.

Yes it is just a press fit.

As mentioned above, getting it out while assembled will be the hard part.
