JH23 Code
« on: December 12, 2015 - 07:48:26 PM »
I ran my fender tag for my '72 Challenger and found a JH23 code. What does it mean to be a "High" option class? It's a 225 Slant Six car but it came with a console (C16).

Most Challengers are JH cars...  Even a Deputy which is a total stripper with fixed rear windows is a JH... Then again an SE which typically is a heavily optioned Challenger also a JH.....   JS is an R/T....

Yes, only 2 VIN options on a Challenger.  JH standard Challenger (H= High) and the JS R/T's (S = Special).  The higher horse power cars like Hemi's and 440+6 were all R/T's (JS codes).  Obviously no Hemi or 440+6's in 72, but they did have JS codes for the 318's and 340's.   1972 was the first year you could get a 318 or 340 JS car.  1970 and 1971 a 340 could be ordered with A66 but it came with a JH Vin.

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

Actually you could get a 71 Challenger R/T with a 340 & all R/T's carry a JS vin...

Yes, I forgot they switch that in 71 not 72.

That makes sense. I figured it was a "high" option car because it was a base model with a console, bucket seats, power brakes, etc.
