How to attach trim for top of doors
« on: December 13, 2015 - 01:30:53 PM »
Need to attach some trim parts soon.
I need to find out how it attaches. I assume there are some specialty clips. Anyone with any pics?  Also is there any trick to putting this trim on without scratching up the paint ??

You'll need the 70-71 style belt molding clips that anchor into those holes.  The clips have a very thin plastic base that keeps the molding off of the paint.  The molding gets pushed down onto the clip to snap in place.  If you try to slide the molding on (like you may have taken the old one off) you'll probably scratch something.  The part that is sometimes challenging is that the repro molding strips aren't always curved as much as the door, so snapping them into place can be difficult.

The Cuda clips are plastic, The Challenger clips are metal..... And there are no repro Challenger trim strips....  Someone recently posted that they had found suitable clips for the door trim...I look for it...

I couldn't find the post, I did find these... Visually very close but I can't find any dimensions...

I know you can use universal bolt on clips if the glass is still out of the car but originally the clips snapped on like the ones in the link....

Bolt in style...

Thought we were talking about a Cuda.  If it's a Challenger, I have no idea.

No.. They attach a piece of Stainless trim to the to[p of the door on 70-71 Challengers with the optional belt line molding package....

The clips Frank Mitchell is selling in your link can't be replaced without destroying the beltline weatherstrip & are included when you buy new beltline weatherstrip.... So why would anyone buy them from his crew?

Thanks for the info. Wasn't sure about the clips. Is Frank Mitchell affiliated with AMS Obsolete?

Don't know who AMS is, Frank Mitchell passed away a few years ago, help a few folks in the hobby, ripped off allot of people in the hobby.... His former employees continue to run the business & from what I've heard ethics haven't improved....

Got the clips but the portion that pushes thru the hole is too big.
Holes in the door at 1/4"
I called the gentleman that I ordered the clips and he is going to see if he has something that works. I sent him one of original clips to try and match it

Any other options or sources for clips ??

I used these on my 71. Drilled the holes on a piece of sheet metal to get the right size.
