Working in Russia

Hey Guys. Just thought I would post something about working in Russia. I work all over the world in the oil and gas industry but have never had the opportunity to work in Russia until now. I arrived in Tyumen a couple weeks ago. Tyumen is close to the Kazakhstan border about 200 k north. The guys I work with are great even though I don't speak their language although I have an interpreter that tells me she will be my "tail" meaning she will always be behind me, I guess - I didn't want to tell her what the slang version of that meant in Canada haha. The weather here is similar to northern Alberta so I feel right at home. Gas is about 60 cents a liter in Canadian dollars. The drivers are crazy and take many chances, I especially have a maniac driver that is assigned to me and keeps blabbing away to me in Russian about how stupid the rest of the drivers on the road are when I think this guy is nuts. Thankfully we only reach about 80 k or so going to work. I would not want to travel with this guy on a freeway. He drives his Chevy SUV like he's in a formula one race all the time. I find they are not very confrontational people at all. Very mellow compared to some other places I have been. Wild dogs run everywhere in the city and it's amazing to watch them actually wait for a red light and cross a busy intersection when it's safe to do so! The food is fantastic - great steaks and sausages and lots of cold beer so life is good. I'm here till the 23rd then fly back home for Christmas. Gotta go - one of the guys I have been working with just called and said his flight out of here was cancelled and I have to call the driver to go pick him up at the airport....he's pissed.

Yeah I hear you there, myself and my wife have been working north of ft Mac for 6 years or so. Just finished up at husky sunrise but it is looking like I will be working at home in the Sarnia Ontario area for the foreseeable future.
Lots of job losses in oil and gas which effects all Canadians but all our government talks about is windmills and refugees clueless about anything else

My brother in law is working up at Ft.Chippewa and it's also north of Ft.McMurder. Sarnia isn't that bad a place- we used to go to a bar there (Hughie's Junkyard) and then go over to Pt.Urine for a few more. LOL   As for the Liberals, you wait until Justin is done with us. Have a Merry Christmas anyhow!

Haha, yeah it's not a bad area for work either, we are just 10 minutes south in Corunna couple handouts there as well. It's going to be quite a trying time in 2016/17 in Canada.

I will try and get some pics guys but working everyday and driving to and fro in the dark morning and night. May take Sunday off and see if I can get out and about - and YES the women here are beautiful! I have worked all over the north of Alberta as well. Still some huge projects going on with Suncor Fort Hills and CNRL expanding two fold and the new red water refinery. I quit working at Conoco Phillips to do some work for the current company I am with. Trudeau can go hug some refugees! I will be heading to India after the new Year and then back to Kuwait in May. Also have more projects in Spain, Turkey, Russia, Oman, Saudi, Thailand. I will be busy for the next two years then I'm retiring! Had enough of this world traveling crap. Spent twenty years doing this back in the eighties and nineties and now I'm back at it again. When I quit working for this company in 2001 I had 1.7 million air miles to give you an idea of how much of the world I saw.

Dude! That's a lot of travelling ! A lot of people would love to be in your position just for the travels... I'm sure someday you'll be fed up with all this travelling. But retiring ? How old are you ?

Ok, i have to say this... They have beautiful women ! I remember back in the 90s, when a lot of young women came to work in my country (Russian and Ukranian also), you would search among them to find the unattractive one...

Just noticed tonight coming back to the hotel - 92, 93, 95, and 98 octane readily available at the pumps - WTF! Why don't we have that in North America!

Not sure but i thought its  not the same octane in US vs Europe? Roz vs moz? We have 95 a minimum here in switzerland. 98 is also avail. everywhere and 100 on bigger stations.

Edit: I mean RON/MON (its called ROZ/MOZ in german)...
