I'm a new member to this forum but have read it many times. I'm a female grease monkey who is helping her husband restore a 1971 Barracuda we purchased in February of this year. So far, we have completely deconstructed the car, completed all body work, sanding (my arms still hurt), painting etc. We decided to go with a non-traditional color: Marathon Blue Effect; Color Code: PBD. It is gorgeous as it slowly transitions from light blue to dark blue to purple as you walk by it. There are a lot of aspects that we are keeping OEM though and when it's done, we will have a perfect mix between old vs new. Throwback vs. Modern. Nod to the true Cuda but with a few custom touches. This is our lifelong dream and we don't ever plan to sell it, so why not right?
Since the body work, we have completely rebuilt the drivetrain, with new torsion bars, new rear end, rebuilt leaf springs, new front end assembly, rebuilt Torqueflite transmission (not yet installed), rebuilt driveshaft (not yet installed) and all new hardware. The motor is currently at the machine shop (we went with a 440) getting cleaned, bored and the short block rebuilt.
We have just purchased all we need to install all new fuel system and just got the new gas tank, sending unit, and vent tube installed the other night. Now for the fuel lines.
Once that's done, it's time for the brakes. Has anyone ever put an entire brake system in their car before? We have disc brakes in the front and drum brakes in the rear with no desire to upgrade the rear brakes to disc. We have an FSM for the car but it doesn't really say anything about installing an entire brake system from scratch? What's the best way to go about this? We will need to buy most supplies so any favorite sites/stores? Anyone with any pics on how their brake system is installed/routed would be much appreciated!
Anyway, thanks for your time and for all the great info we get on here from time to time!
