727 reverse problem

  I need some direction from one of the transmission gurus, I just installed a rebuilt 727 transmission, the forward gears work fine shifts OK, when I put it in reverse it seems to labor the engine to move the car & when I release the accelerator the car just stops like I applied brakes, all I did was change the transmission & tc. this did not happen with old transmission. Any ideas?

Sounds like the forward clutch is dragging. This can be caused by too tight of clearance in the fwd. clutch or if the clearance is too loose, the piston can over extend and the lip seal comes out of it's bore and the clutch gets stuck on. The trans will have to come out and come apart to fix.

I would suggest checking the low/reverse and intermediate band adjustment followed by a re-torque of the valve body to case bolts. This may be repairable without removing the trans from the car. Do you have any forward drive action while in neutral? Any other issues?

   6packCuda ,  that is exactly what it feels like the forward clutch dragging, I will drop the pan & have a look, sure  hope I don't need to take it apart, my transmission knowledge is very limited, while I have the pan down I'll check the items 734406pk suggests, I have no forward drive action while in neutral but there is some growling noise in reverse that don't sound good, goes though the forward gears fine with no noise.  thanks for the help

Also check that the shift linkage to the selector valve is adjusted properly.
