I finally saw this movie the other day and boy was I disappointed. I thought it was by far the worst Star Wars movie yet. The acting seemed good, no complaints there but the story line was horrible.
Villain: If you're going to have a villain shouldn't he at least be a scary bad@ss. The main villain in this movie looked like some long-haired high school kid dressed in goth. He was certainly hilarious looking but not at all frightening…….and then he gets his butt kicked by some girl who had never been trained in the Force whereas he's had extensive training….really?
Weapon: Wow, they couldn't come up with something better than just a bigger version of the death star that could shoot further.....seriously? Then, they stepped from science fiction into fantasy with the weapon operation. I mean, sucking in the mass of a star that has a mass hundreds of thousands of times greater than the death star could ever have, that's just silly. Then there's the shooting a light-speed, beam weapon that gets to its destination and magically separates into a number of smaller beams to take out multiple planets from one shot. I'm just an engineer, not a scientist but I seem to remember a few things about mass and momentum that would likely make such an event pretty much impossible. Seems like a lot of modern day sci-fi screen writers wander back and forth between science fiction and fantasy like they're almost the same, they're not!
Hero: Where the heck did the scene with Fin fighting the pissed off storm trooper come from? Obviously, there was some pretty important background story line that had been dropped.
Ending: What the heck, the whole movie focused on finding Luke and in the last scene Rey finally comes face to face with him and then…….nothing. If I didn't know better, I would say that last scene was a staring contest between Luke and Rey to see who would blink first.
It's unfortunate that Lucas sold the rights to this franchise, at least he knew how to make a good sci-fi flick.
