383 mopar vs. 383 chevy
« on: December 30, 2015 - 08:53:14 PM »
This video is from the engine masters series, and the results are really surprising. Make one question the bore/stroke relationship to power production, where, and its pretty cool.

Makes sense to me the Chev is a stroker with lighter pistons & more stroke  the mopar is a a stock stroke heavy piston combo & would benefit from longer stroke a bit more than a 318 & lighter pistons

I was surprised by the low end grunt advantage the mopar had, 40Ft lbs and about 20 horse down low. I knew up top numbers would go to the chev because stock vortecs will embarrass 906s on a flow bench. I was surprised that the 383 mopar could get that kind of port velocity that low with its tiny stroke.

I'm not sure I'd say the 906 is the best factory big block head.  915 has better chambers and 346 flow slightly better.

They did say that they milled the heads so that helped the chamber out some.

I'd like to see a do over with a set of Max Wedge heads in the Mopar.

Is there even an intake with max wedge ports for a low deck?

So Neil you think that the same 383 with lighter pistons would have a slight advantage over the 383 Chevy ? :clueless:

Yes I do  , if it can equal the power slinging 700 gram pistons & heavy rods , removing 7lbs from the rotating mass should free up a fair amount of power not being used up internally the other end is you should be able to change the rod ratio & make more tq .

So a 46 year old engine with old 906 heads could beat up a Chevy blueprinted engine ? That's cool to hear  :2thumbs:

I like to see a do over with small block verses small block with the same stroke.
Think the 340 would kill the 383 then.
Its just a little 340 with a miss
