I'm lost on the cam they used... anybody have a link to that?

Comp Cams Xtreme Energy Hydraulic Roller Cam - 230/236-degrees duration and 110-degree lobe separation, 0.541/0.537 lift

I actually posted the specs under Proven Engine Combo about the same time 73restomod posted this one.  http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=110236.0#new

I will die a mopar fan and a fan of Motortrend's new online push but I don't believe this was an apple to apple comparison.

Stroker vs "stock" engine but was actually over 383 CI.
Blueprinted vs. built by a guy who claimed it was thrown together at 2 am.
combination of parts used internally to the engines are vastly different ( as chryco pointed out weight of internal parts, materials of internal parts, original style parts vs aftermarket parts that have years and years of testing and revisions to them etc...)
even the cams were slightly different in lift.

If the work that had gone into that blueprinted chev motor was done to that mopar engine that Steve Dulsich (spelling?) had built I think the mopar 383 could have been better.

Had the engine comparison been a Chev 302 cross ram from the 69 z/28 vs a ford 302 BOSS motor from a 69 Mustang BOSS 302, I think it could have been a much better comparison.

It isn`t Dulcich`s first rodeo either though. I think the results should be around equal with similiar head flow and other factors. I actually thought the Chebbies stroke would have gained it more low end than the Mopar.

Can you run that much lift without cutting the valve guides?

Just a thought, 383 with 440 rods and skinny Pistons. Possible?

no problem
actually you can cut the mains down to size & use the 440 crank & rods in a 383 with a short / lightweight piston & have 432 CI or so depending on overbore size

Didn't they use a stock 906 head on the 383 Mopar ? How much lift, a 906 head can jave ?

They did say 906 heads, not sure how stock they were, and 0.541/0.537 lift.

Just seen it... by what they're saying, it does have 906 heads.

not a big modification to trim the top of the valve guides down while installing new springs required for the roller cam
