1970 440-6 Spark plug Heat Shield Question

On a stock 1970 440-6, are there supposed to be any spark plug heat shields on the passenger side?

Yes. The Nos. 6 and 8 spark plug wires have heat shields.

I put 42,000 miles in two years on 400 triple 35 years ago.

I just got my car back from being restored by Alan Gallant and he said the passenger side is not supposed to have any.
Are you certain or is Alan wrong?

It actually only shields the very rear most wire..

I've always felt Alan builds a damn nice car, but not a concours type build.. If thats what you want there are builders who specialize in those sort of cars but you may want to look into getting your wallet equipped with a cooling system....

Yes I am sure that #6 and #8 have a heat shield. It is a one piece shield that protects both plugs. Factory part # 2951347

Yes I still have my H2 that I bought brand new. It is a near perfect survivor!]

I imagine you had some quick rides on that!!!

Only have the keys to that bike of mine left.
I rode it without the right carb K&N and destroyed that piston and cylinder.

Last saw a 750 down here in Houston about a year ago.

Yes it was a crazy fast bike! Back in the day the H2 was to other bikes what a Hemi Cuda was to other muscle cars. FEARED!!!  Here is a picture of my 100% original survivor H2.

That is what I remembered... But then I went to the Hoffman site & he didn't list the shield for 6&8 just the single plug... Well I'm tearing down my car which was built 20 years ago & at the time it was very original.... I photographed the original engine details & recreated everything to a ridiculously high level, stencilled logos on hoses, reproduced stamps & markings on everything... Anyway point is I took photos then & duplicated everything so this was a reference level resto at the time & since then I've driven the crap out of it... Well theres a shield on 6&8 plus a shield on 7.... There is a plug wire bracket on the driver side third head bolt from the front...  And both front exhaust studs...

This is for 69, I would think it would be same for 70
