Hey Old School
« on: January 05, 2016 - 05:33:45 AM »
Hey Ken, It's After 4am. I have been kinda sick for quite a while now. Matter of fact, I got insomnia right now, and it shouldn't really be possible, but I am. Maybe I am depressed just finding out yesterday that someone broke into my compressor shed and stole a few couple of thousand bucks worth of mopar items off of me. I refuse to add the cost. I have kinda been to sick n too confused to really gras ahold of anything for any length of time any ways

by the way,  Super special thank you Judy, You brought tears to my eys.  Great Present

Ken, can you give me an update on your car?  I am so curious about it.I know you haven't raced it. But have you had time to take it out on the street yet? If so, Can you tell the difference vs the dollars spent on the extra ponies? Was kinda wondering what gears yer running to. I know I ask a lot of questions. , since I have been having brain problems, each mini stroke takes my memory more n more and I find that I don't shut up much either,  haha.  I am playing my Martin as much as possible, lots of 60's and 70'smusic. Trying to keep my memory working. My son asked me to do that.

My hemi car is coming along ok.. I am hoping I can get it brought up to Carlisle. I am able to still drive, but I can not be left alone anymore. My car will look exactly stock, but I will throttle stop it at a 6.0 street class. That's my goal anyways. Shouldn't be to hard. We have the same hp level, I'm just about 400 lbs lighter. Ha ha at you. Suspension is going to be my challenge. I am almost crippled now, so working on my car is getting to be hard for me. But I am not going to give up. I know if I stop, I die. I have work 16 hr days most all my life. Not really sure how to stop anyways.

So Ken, Can you give me an update?  I would like to hear one if you can. .. And hello everyone. I would like to chat more with everybody, but, frankly, I don't really feel like Alan anymore.  It's like i'm here, but I'm not. I don't know how to tell anyone how I feel other than brain pain

Im hammering on it now. Well not as fast as I want to but in here working. trying to install my dana tonight bymyself. And installing Don's gas tank. I have to turn his car around and get started on under the hood stuff for him. I also have to move my 23 forf truck out of my shop and put it in storage, so I can bring this gtx in here and pull the 440 out to test fit my hemi in it. I dont want to scratch any of my new paint on my road runner. I really think Wade will ride with me to Carlisle this year, while I tow with my cummins. If I am still able. There is a lot on my plate and mind right now. This is probably the last car I build from scratch. WELL>>.... maybe   we shall see. Hoping pain and stuff calms down.  You going to the show?  I am bringing lots n lots of gifts of course for those who are not so fortunate to afford parts for their cars. Sad I had stuff stolen from one of my sheds. I lost a few thousand in value that I was giving away. It wasnt so much the value as it was the saddness of not being able to see someone with a suprised smile. I really enjoy that.  I work hard at giving things away. Parts are hard to find. Ken is close to. I hope I can cruise with him. I'm not sure if he can cruise with all the work he is always doing though.

Good hearing from you Josh. I wish Neil was here in Alabama for a few days. He might enjoy tinkering around with me.

Take care   Alyerpal-Mopar Al-Hemi Al-mypal Al Just names people gave me, I never picked them out myself. Usually at the track or parts house.

Good morning Big Al...

It is great to hear from you sir.   :grinyes:  I saw this thread yesterday and was too busy here at work to try and respond. I did get the new Hemi in the car and got it running. I haven't been able to drive it yet and get an opinion about the way the extra power feels. It has a fairly significant oil leak coming from the oil pan. I tried to simply tighten the pan bolts, but that did not help. It was assembled using RTV only and after it cured and sat for weeks, it had already solidified and it would not compress and stop leaking. I haven't had time with the holidays and all that goes on with that stuff to get it up here to the shop and get it in the air and repair it. I am looking to get that done in the next couple of weekends. I can tell you this  --  it sounds badazz....    :grinyes:  I know that the HP will go up about 80, but the TQ will really jump up.  To answer a couple of your questions about the car, here are a few answers....

It weighs 3254 without me in it.
I am running a 4.10 gears with spool and a 3800 converter.
The tires are 31" tall.  It is not set up to blast out of the hole, it is more of a quick street cruiser. To really lay down a number I would need a 5000 - 5500 converter and a 4.88 - 5.10 rear gear and a trans brake. That would be a quick car on the track, but it would make it all but undriveable on the street - so I will leave it as is.

It is good to hear from you my old friend and I am very happy that you are still able to do some of the things that you love doing.  Hopefully we can cruise together a few times this upcoming summer. We are planning a cruise or two over to Gadsden this season. If we do that, I will let you know in time for you to try and get there too. I am looking forward to it.  Heck - I might even bring my Guild D-35 and we can pick a tune or two....    :2thumbs:

I quoted this because of my memory problem, ok?  Thanks for responding Ken.  Fantastic about Gadsden. That really excites me. Mine goes into the body shop hoping by tuesday. Doing Hemi leafsprings and caltracks. Good combo?  Went 28 inch tall 12 inch wide tires and 5000 stall ptc. Ken is building it for me. Made 700 tq at 4500 so I figure why not.  My foot doesnt need to stay in it anyways and it only made 787 at 5900 as it was.  I can't wait to see ya. I got my Martin D35, so I will keep it with me. I've had it since new like 1977 I think. Can't remember. Oil leak at front or back on your car?  sucks I know, but at least it's the pan and not to bad to change out. Do you have a siamese world block in yours? Just curious. I left mine stock bore at 4.5 . I really could have made 200 more hp easier, but to be honest Ken. I am kina sick now. Not really sure if I will actually be around much longer, and it hurts to race. 93 octane and 800 hp is fairly good chest beating hp on anyones chest.  We can never be first place all the time, no matter how hard we try. Can I ask you what your 1/8th et is?  Or is it a secrete?  I want to do a 6.0 true N/A street class at the track , I think I have that numbeer, but I'm running 354 gears. Oh, by the way. I have a set of 488 gears here I believe if you want them. They were new. I beleive they are here. if not, all I have is 513 and 557 410 and 373 left.  Do you think your car would benefit from a modman intake?  I think it would actually. I think it is helping my hp and tq numbers for it being a true 10 3/4 compression engine. It has 2 untuned edelbrock 750's on it now. right out the box  lol. It was dyno'ed 1000 ft higher elevation to, so I can tune it some more also. How does your cooling system act?  what size radiator?  I have a stock 22 inch road runner radiator I took to the rad shop today to get recored. 3 row  22 inch Hemi. Yes, facory shroud  lol.  People that know the name Moparal sometimes learn the embarassing way by seeing tailights. As I said. We can't win them all, but I don't loose many either. I really like your weight. Is that with a cage?  Are you fat like me?  We never get to catch up to eachother. You have never made it to a show. Now I'm only 6's 270  I'm shrinking with age and getting fat I guess. I sure hope we can cruise together. I'm looking forward to it. I am doing an engine for a member here now. Bullit  Wade.  I had another one for him, but it was just to big. But I am hoping maybe he can bring his challenger to. I will have to have someone with me or drive for me. Depending on my health. But hotroding and racing will always be in my blood. Take care friend, and thanks for responding back....ALAN

I think the Cal-Tracs and Hemi leafs will work out fine. You might have to fiddle with the adjustments on the Cal-Tracs a little bit, but they should work fine.

As for my car and the oil leak, I have the plan in place to bring it up here to the shop next week and repair the leak.  It should be a 2-3 hour job at the most. Then it will be time to put it on the road and get the rings seated and break that bad boy in right. So, in the next few weeks I should be able to report back to you about the difference in power and torque.  My block is not a World Block. It is a 528 - 4.5" bore Mopar Mega Block. The bore is still 4.5". No secrets about what my car runs, I don't street race or grudge race with it, so the ET doesn't matter.  :grinno:  With the old setup, the car ran low 6.40's-high 6.30's in the 1/8. It depended on the air on any given day. With you running 28" tall tires and the 5000 converter that thing should launch real nice. The weight of my car, (3254 lbs), is as it sits with fluid and fuel - but without my old fat butt in it.  :smilielol:  I weigh anywhere from 220 - 245 depending on how much I eat and workout..  LoL..  I am not sure whether or not a Mod Man intake would benefit my car or not. The Ray Barton crossram has been massaged internally for better dispersion and more power.  My cooling system is the 26" Bee-Cool system with the twin fans. So far, I haven't had overheating issues with it.
You are like me with your guitar. I bought my Guild back in the mid-late 70's and have had it ever since. I have went through a bunch of guitars over the years, but this one will be here with me until I check out of this world....

Seems like I have saw that car Doug.  But you have one. Are you wanting another hole in your wallet?

I have had my Barracuda over 20 years and I just won't cut it up and I am starting to near that roll cage requirement #.
I changed jobs about 3 years ago and work for a family that races and have a great opportunity to build my race car, plus with the machine shop and a dyno cell I am dying to play.
I am not much for running the brackets and enjoy testing and tuning and going faster and faster way more so it would be a race car only.
