Speedometer Cable Length
« on: January 05, 2016 - 10:02:59 PM »
Trying to get a speedometer cable for my 73 Cuda with 4 speed tranny. I don't have and old one to measure and they offer quite a few different lengths. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Mike

Thanks Telis, I have a 62"er on the way. I'll let you know if works out but that number kind of rings a bell so I think it will be fine. Can't wait to see how fast this baby is. :smile

The 62" cable was the perfect length. Put it in today and the length was fine but ........as most projects go......... I ran into a couple of new problems. First, when I try to hook it up to the speedometer, it is supposed to just push onto it and snap securely in place. It doesn't. It is very hard to push hard enough to snap into place, as though the cable end is too long. I did get it to snap in but when I drove it the speedo needle bounced all over the place. When I released the clip and let it ride in there with no pressure on it, it work smoothly but could easily fall out of the speedo. Seems like I might need to cut off the end of the cable. Anybody run into this???

Second thing, probably a little more common of a problem, it is very inaccurate. When I'm driving at 25mph the speedo reads 33mph. Is their some way to figure out what gear I would need or any other thing I might need to make it read a little closer to correct. Or is it just trial and error? :dunno
Thanks, Mike

Don't have any experience with this but my rear tire diameter is 25" and the tag on my rear end says 3.23 so according to the chart I need a 33 tooth gear. I took out the one that was in there and it is a 34 tooth. Does one tooth make that much of a difference? While my speedo said I was doing 33, I was being clocked at 25mph. :dunno
