70 Cuda Project V Code How Much?
« on: January 05, 2016 - 11:27:46 PM »
I found a 70 V code Cuda that I may have an opportunity to buy. I had a guy contact me about a wing for my 71. We get texting and he says he has a 71 wing and he asked about my car. Then I find out he has a 70 cuda, v code, shaker, auto, Purple. I assume there is a tag maybe a broadcast sheet? But it's a project...has original block all together with everything intact but apparently the motor spun a rod bearing. Missing the shaker base plate but has a repop. Not original hood but is a 71 shaker hood...I don't know the difference? Dana 410 - doesn't have the numbers tranny but has a non numbers one. He says he bought the car in 1996 in California. Anyway lets say the car is solid which he says it's not bad what is the car worth? what is the car worth with a complete resto? Not as much as a 4 speed I gather. I kick myself because I bought a v code B5 4 spd car back in 2002 and then sold it when things were crazy in 2006 and I am kicking myself for that! But I did come out 40 grand ahead! I am heading there on Saturday to look at the car and pick up the wing he has. Here is a pic he sent me.

Unfortunately I am not going to be able to help here because I am cheap and feel that many of these cars are way over priced, however it looks like it has a XV engine bay brace in it or someone's version of one. If it is a XV brace, this car must have run or been worked on not all that long ago. A quick internet search shows 440-6 Cudas running somewhere between $80K and $190K, of course this is very rudimentary. As far as what it is worth now, others on here are far better suited to provide a more accurate estimate, however I would saw that if you are going for a complete high quality resto you are going to be looking at around $100K by the time it is done, so if you are thinking the car is going to be worth say $170K (just using this number), then you have to figure that $70K is your working window which is comprised of purchase price and profit. So depending on how much you want to make on it will leave what you should be paying for it. Given its condition and completely in my opinion I would say that car is worth somewhere around $30K. Now I am sure someone will jump on here and call this BS and say it is worth more or perhaps less, but like I said this is my opinion. Of course a lot of this has to do with its providence and documentation. The better both are, the more it is worth. If it has some unique options (above the shaker and 440-6), that could drive the price up. Ultimately for me, it is worth what you are willing to pay. There are some great restorers on this forum who can and most likely will chime is with better information. I am not a "numbers" guy or interested in original cars all that much, I prefer custom cars, built cars, etc but I respect those who are into original cars. Good luck.

You guys are right in line with what I was thinking. I was at 30. I will have a look at it and go from there. I will post some more info next week after I talk to him and get a closer look.

This one sold last year for it's asking price of $49500 USD. It is a number matching, mostly original paint, running, driving,  automatic, shaker car.

This seems to be REALLY nice find! I know many people are sick of seeing FC7 purple but it's still my favorite color. I would say it's worth around 30k.
Good luck with the purchase...maybe you can pick up for a little under 30?  :misbehaving:

This 'cuda is a chance. If it has most parts with it, it would be a pretty cool car to purchase...

I wouldn't pay more than 20-25 to get that one with too many unknowns.

$35K....

It would have to have the numbers matching block, fender tag and build sheet and be rock solid for my above estimate....

Not a lot of six pack shaker projects in the $20K-$25K range any more :crying:

If that is an original shaker bonnet and wing that could swing the price a few thou right there. Kind of looks like it could be factory paint over that grey primer too, that would be another big bonus.

I just got off the phone with him. Mopar guy. Knows what he has. Says the car is solid - might have to touch up one quarter panel...that's it. I am trying to get there this weekend but may not make it. He has a 71 wing for my Cuda I am buying. He is a 5 hour drive from me....I also have another car I will be selling. I will start another thread when I get some pictures. It's a U code 70 GTX - FE5 auto - has everything but body is rough...non matching motor...its a project.
