1970 barracuda brake pedal to booster rod connector , help!!
« on: January 07, 2016 - 09:03:50 AM »
Has anyone come across this situation? I noticed an extremely high brake pedal with lots of free play, and to boot it was up so high because it was held up by springs,

It appears at some point a new brake booster has been installed in my 70 barracuda, connecting the brake pedal to the loop on the booster rod was a nut and bolt, which I have a feeling this is not correct, the bolt is about 5/16". the hole in the pedal arm is about 3/8" and the eyelet in the booster rod is about 9/16", no bushing filling the gap

This is what was in there holding it together

Does any one know where I could get the correct fastener for this ?

:2cents: That does not look like the pedal to linkage bolt.  It should  be stepped and have an o-ring on part of the shaft.  I'll look for a picture.

don't you need a pivot assembly for power brakes? check this out from Brewer's.

I don't have power brakes, someone on here will help you, but I think you may have the wrong setup all the way around. look at the photos at the site below. That's how it should look by your pedal. don't know why you have a pivot in the engine compartment.

The booster and mounting plate are not  correct for 70 barracuda.

maybe all you need is the correct bolt on the pedal.  :dunno:  Is the rod going through the firewall straight or at an angle? could be your booster was made that way to move it away from the engine. Did they do that for hemi cars to clear the valve covers?

My pedal area looks different than the link you had sent of the assembly ,   Maybe I should just get the pivot bolt ?

as stated above I think you have a multitude of issues. 4 speed fish says that is the wrong booster and mounting plate. If your pedal assembly is not like the photos in the above post, could they or the bracket be wrong as well? Do you know the history of this car? Post some more pictures, and I am sure you can get the help you need. As your original post states, you have issues and they need to be addressed for safety sake.
